Patient Account Representative – Central Billing Office – Capital Region Medical Center – Jefferson City, MO

CAPITAL REGION MEDICAL CENTER POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Purpose:

Participate in all patient account activities in relation to the collection of accounts, including but not limited to, payment analysis, credit, collections and/or financial counseling.

Principal Accountabilities and Essential Duties of the Job:

  • Take incoming calls and answer inquiries from patients and payers concerning balance on patient’s account.
  • Make arrangements for payment or determine financial assistance on self pay accounts.
  • Interview patient or family representative to establish patient liability allowances and type of financial assistance the patient is eligible to receive.
  • Utilize multiple internal and external computer programs and applications for claim follow up inquiries
  • to best achieve prompt reimbursement.
  • Analyze and determine best appropriate action to be taken on inquiries from patients and payers to resolve accounts, within scope of authority.
  • Act as hospital’s collection representative to ensure timely collection of all accounts receivable debt.
  • Review account receivable aged reports for both unpaid and delinquent balance accounts, evaluate and refer delinquent accounts to collection agency as needed.
  • File claims on estates of deceased patients, process bankruptcy and charity adjustments.
  • Assist in preparing files, paper or electronically to be sent to outside vendors doing business on behalf of the hospital for the recovery of account receivable funds, including assistance with Collection Agency inquiries.
  • Process refund requests for credit balances which have been identified.
  • Uses telephone, mail, internet or other techniques as outlined in policy guidelines to aid in collection of insurance account receivable balances.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by Manager.
