JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for providing individual, family, and group therapies in a collaborative team environment, as well as participating in our multidisciplinary treatment team. Serve as a professional role model, leader, mentor, and clinical resource/educator for client, families, and colleagues. Psychotherapists work with individuals (adults, children or adolescents), couples, families and groups to help them overcome a range of psychological and emotional problems as well as distress related to psychosocial concerns. With the client as an active participant, the Psychotherapist uses personal treatment plans and a variety of non-medical-based treatments through verbal interaction to address the client’s adaptive skills, thought processes, feelings and behavior, to understand his/her inner conflicts and psychosocial problems, and find new ways to deal with, and alleviate, distress to facilitate and support rehabilitation and recovery.

This position represents a vital function for the clinic as a member of the professional clinical staff and is responsible for providing the care to the agency clients. The mission and treatment philosophy of the agency is directly linked to the work performed in this capacity. The Psychotherapist is trained in a generally recognized clinical behavioral health discipline including but not limited to psychiatry, psychology, counseling, social work, nursing or rehabilitation that has a graduate degree and at least two (2) years verified clinical experience in the mental health field.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct treatment to clients as assigned by the Clinical Operations Manager, conducting comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and developing treatment plans following the agency’s established clinical procedures as well as State, DBH and CBH guidelines.
  • Conduct Individual, Family and Group Therapy.
    Document all treatment sessions in progress notes on a timely fashion and utilizing the agency’s formats.
  • Complete all pertinent chart documentation daily at the time of billing.
  • Attend weekly supervision with the Clinical Supervisor, staff trainings, and other clinic meetings as required.
  • Participate in all CBH mandatory in-services (must be completed within three (3) months of signing up and annually from the date of the initial training).
  • Participates in at least ten (20) hours of documented additional in-service training per year.
  • Keep abreast of developments in clinical behavioral health theory and research.
  • Network within the health professional community, and other potential business areas, to maintain continuity of work and client base.
  • Maintains all licenses and related documents up dated.
  • Adheres to established working schedule, properly informing the Clinical Operations Manager and appropriate administrative/support staff as necessary in the event of absence.
  • Acts at all times in an ethical, professional, and lawful manner, and follow all agency administrative and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Produces periodic reports including output and outcome data, analysis and an evaluation of the impact of work.
  • Attends and actively participate in line management meetings, annual appraisals, monthly and quarterly team meetings etc. as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
The Psychotherapist will meet the minimum requirements of the clinical position as described by CBH established guidelines as well as the agency’s own position qualifications. Thus, he/she is required to present the following documentation:

a) Master’s Degree from an accredited university in a clinical mental health discipline, such as: Psychology, Counseling, Clinical Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, and Marriage and Family therapy. The Master’s Degree must include clinical coursework in the foundations of behavioral health and the provision of mental health services (i.e., individual psychotherapy, group and family therapy, abnormal psychology, psychopathology, cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapy, crisis counseling, assessment, child development, personality theory, clinical practicum). Other courses may count as determined by a review of the transcript/syllabi.

c) Previous experience working with persons with mental health problems is essential: at least two (2) years verified experience in the behavioral health field.

d) Valid Child Abuse (Act 33) clearance and mandatory reporting training, criminal history and FBI clearances.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Good character as reflected in maintaining a pleasing interpersonal disposition and helpful verbal communication skills.

Ability to take instruction, guidance, and direction, willing and able to accept constructive criticism along with recommendations and suggestions for improvement.

Possession of excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide superior client service and maintain cooperative working relationships; strong organizational and time management skills; and the ability to exercise strict confidentiality in all matters.

Be passionate about treating and helping people in distress, providing understanding, support and satisfaction within normal limits to make positive behavioral changes.

Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills and time management. Spanish-English bilingual skills are highly desirable. Familiarity with the DSM-V, ability to use computers and Electronic Health Records.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

INTRODUCTION PERIOD:

There will be an initial introduction period of three (3) months aimed at verifying the employee’s ability and general personality, during which each of the parties, employer or employee, can freely withdraw from the employment relationship. The introductory period shall be of three (3) months from the date of hiring.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is primarily sedentary in nature. Occasional local travel between sites is required. Substantial time may be spent using a computer.
