Forensic Analyst 1-BPH/Office of the Chief Medical Examiner-Kanawha Co. – State of West Virginia – Kanawha County, WV


Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR)/Bureau for Public Health (BPH)/Office of the Chief Medical Examiner/Kanawha Co.-This position is located in Charleston WV. This position is required to accomplish a critical component of the toxicology laboratory procedures that directly impacts the medicolegal death investigation conducted by the OCME in this statutory obligation to determine that cause and manner of death for all deaths which occur in each of the fifty-five (55) counties across the state. The work performed by the incumbent in this position provides direct support to the Forensic Pathologist for every case that requires toxicology services through the proper application of scientific analysis on specimens and samples received by the forensic toxicology laboratory. The results of the analysis for each case are interpreted by the Forensic Pathologist and relied upon to inform their professional medical opinion and often times the basis for testimony in an appropriate court of law. Testimony by the Forensic Pathologists and/or the Chief Toxicologist are relied upon by local, sate and federal court system in both criminal and civil proceedings. Training: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with a major in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, forensic sciences, natural sciences, or related field.

Training Substitution for Firearms Section Only: Four years of experience as a qualified forensic laboratory firearms examiner may be substituted for bachelor’s degree.
