Medical Assistant – Allied Digestive Health – Oakhurst, NJ

Summary: Under the direction of the Practice Administrator, and working with assigned Physicians, Medical Assistant 3 (“MA3”) provides assistance to Physicians and services and care to patients including escorting patients to exam rooms, obtaining and recording vitals and patient history, PIF charts, other clerical duties, EMR data entry and handling telephone calls. MA3 may travel between locations and requires a positive approach, ability to multi-task, flexibility and a keen understanding of policies and procedures. This position must be certified in E Prescribe and will administer injections per physician’s orders.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Directed by the Practice Administrator, performs Medical Assistant procedures under the supervision of a Physician and gives instructions to patients as ordered by a Physician.
  • Greets patients professionally and politely, escorts patients to exam rooms and interviews patients.
  • Measures patient vitals including weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
  • Reconciles patient medication.
  • Documents all information in patient’s chart.
  • Inputs Patient Interview Forms (PIF).

· Processes tasks and or messages in gMed.

· Searches patient information via gMed and verifies demographic information for accuracy and HIPAA compliance.

· May obtain preauthorization’s, when necessary.

  • Ensures all related reports, labs and information are filed in patient’s chart prior to the patient’s appointment.
  • Keeps exam rooms stocked with medical supplies.
  • Abides by the policies, procedures, guidelines, rules, testing, security, administration and confidentiality of the Patients and Practice under the guidelines of OSHA and HIPAA Laws and safeguards.
  • Displays consistent positive and polite approach towards patients, customers, vendors, management and co-workers.
  • Maintains clean, orderly and organized workstations and exam room work areas.
  • Reliable and flexible, keeping absences and tardiness to a minimum, acceptable standard.
  • Attend all staff meetings, training/testing

· Resolves problems either independently or by knowing when appropriate to seek out another resource.

· May log into Navinet and ancillary portals to obtain medical information and or reports on patients.

· Performs specialized tasks, projects as requested by Physicians and or Care Center Management, accurately in a timely fashion.

· May work out of other local offices, as directed.

  • Can work varying or longer schedules, if Practice needs require.

· Cross trains with other office positions and provides coverage for other positions as needed or directed.

  • E prescribe, follow up on orders, tasks and recalls, pre authorize labs, radiology and biologics, interacts with pharmaceutical vendors
  • May administer injections per Physician’s orders.
  • May scribe.
  • Performs other duties as required

Essential Skills:

· Certified in E Prescribe

· Trained to administer injections per Physician orders and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

· Comfortable multi-tasking with a sharp attention to detail

· Can perform duties accurately in a timely and efficient manner.

· Can demonstrate exemplary customer service skills.

· Excellent interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to remain cordial throughout the work day as well as to maintain patience under occasional stressful situations.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Computer skills: data entry, knowledge of EMR, or ability to be trained.

· Must be able to drive or have transportation to work out of other local offices.

· Demonstrates strong time management skills and organizational skills.

· Must be able to exercise discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient and staff interaction.

  • Must consistently display patience, courteousness and respect.

· Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA Laws and safeguards, or the ability to be trained in HIPAA and OSHA, and be able to follow these guidelines at all times

  • Ability to learn, understand and perform Medical Assistant procedures under the supervision of physician

Education and Experience Required: High School graduate or GED. Certified graduate of Medical Assistant Program and or certification in E-prescribing.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional medical office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Dress attire required: Determined by Care Center.

Days/Hours: Schedule determined by the needs of the Care Center.

This position may require providing light physical assistance to a patient while escorting him or her around the office.

This position may expose worker to substances commonly found in medical offices resulting from test procedures, waste and similar.

Local travel may be expected for this position.
