DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: St. Charles Health System’s Lean Improvement Office (LIO) is a dynamic team of caregivers who have a passion for improving the care we deliver. LIO utilizes lean and continuous improvement methodologies and tools to drive outcomes our patients and community deserve. The LIO team engages caregivers and providers in using scientific, evidence-based problem solving to improve the delivery of safe, quality, value-enhanced healthcare services.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Lean Improvement Office (LIO) Manager will be responsible for leading the continuous development and implementation of the St. Charles Lean Improvement Office (LIO) business model, activities, and strategy for the health system. The LIO manager serves as the subject matter expert for LIO and will collaboratively support the culture change needed for an effective process improvement system by developing, assessing, planning, implementing, and executing on the essential tools and modeling/supporting education for LIO principles. This position directly manages Lean Improvement Facilitators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Builds expertise and remains current with continuous improvement strategies with specific focus on healthcare and healthcare-related industries.

Collaborates in continuous improvement efforts as a partner with leaders throughout the health system.

Manages the Lean Improvement Facilitators goals, priorities, workplans, timelines and assignments.

Supports the development and deployment of system Lean Improvement principles and spread of learning across St. Charles Health System.

Mentors, develops, recruits, and retains a dynamic, highly qualified, service-oriented team.

Drives significant change and adoption of new LIO processes within St. Charles that will result in the measurable elimination of waste, improved quality, and culture change within St. Charles Health System.

Plans work to be done in concert with identified needs. Develops, maintains, and revises work plans as appropriate to the work. Monitor outcomes. Integrates work with all other system and site initiatives and revises as needed. Anticipates needs of customers and addresses these appropriately.

Responsible for the quality control of individual work, reviewing the work of others as appropriate, and completing performance appraisals for members of assigned team.

Builds and maintains partnerships with management teams. Acts as a consultant to leadership to assist and provide management coaching, leadership development, change management, employee engagement and development.

Supports Director in budget development, regular monitoring, accountability and meeting all operational targets for all areas within span of control.

Hires, directs, coaches, and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high-performance team that meets organizational and department goals

Monitors and ensures all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements. Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals

Provides and oversees team’s delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.

Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.

Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.

Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration, Nursing, Public Health/Policy, Business Administration, or a related field.

Preferred: Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Nursing, Public Health/Policy, Business Administration, or a related field.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Minimum five (5) years demonstrated experience in organization-wide lean transformation as a lean internal coach/consultant with documented success. Minimum one (1) year of leadership experience.

Preferred: Healthcare lean experience.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Basic experience in computer applications necessary to record time, obtain work directions, and complete assigned e-learning lessons.

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access), database management, and document preparation.

Demonstrated ability and experience in computer applications, use of electronic medical record keeping systems and MS Office.

Strong computer knowledge, to include financial spreadsheets. Ability to operate and maintain data on a personal computer.
