Shift Differentials:

$5.00 an hour on weekends

$1.75 an hour on nights

  • Administers and documents medication as ordered by the physician and responsible for day to day operations of medical clinic when HCA is out.

  • Conduct health screenings during sick call using approved standing orders or making appropriate MD referrals.

  • Document all health care rendered on medical records accurately and legibly, while maintaining confidentiality.

  • Assist in planning and coordination of nursing services required to meet the total health care needs of the patient.

  • Assist physicians as needed.

  • Transcribes all MD orders from medical records accurately and legibly.

  • Transfer medical records with appropriate documentation and medication at time of inmate transfer and maintains confidentiality.

  • Competently performs clinical treatments/procedures using universal precautions in all areas of practice.

  • Maintains 40-hours of in-service education per year to include all mandatory in service and CPR certification.

  • Provide emergency treatment to inmates and employees.

  • Participates in employee health issues as directed, i.e., TB screening, Hepatitis B injections, flu injections and post exposure assessment.

  • Collaborates with other correctional professionals to assure social, psychological and security needs of the inmates are met.

  • Schedule and coordinate appointments or admissions to appropriate physicians or facility.

  • Accurately complete proper consultation forms.

  • Collect and process lab specimens with proper forms for transport to appropriate laboratory. Perform approved lab test at clinic sites.

  • Provides inmate health education to population.

  • Performs clerical duties as directed, i.e., maintaining medical records, filing of medical information and Order to Report (OTR), etc.

  • Review all medical records of inmates received.

  • Participates in chronic disease clinics.

State of South Carolina minimum requirements:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience. (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).

SCDC minimum requirements:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience.
