Nutritionist – Virginia Dept of Health – Shenandoah, VA

The Lord Fairfax Health District is seeking an enthusiastic team member to join the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program in the Shenandoah County Health Department. This position is a full-time salaried Nutritionist position serving the WIC participants of Shenandoah County.

Provides nutrition to clients in a variety of settings within the district. Characteristic activity: Conducts patient nutritional assessments and evaluations in the clinic, home, school, and community settings; develops and monitors nutritional care plans and food packages. Certifies clients for participation in available public health programs; schedules, provides and documents basic and secondary/high risk nutrition education; makes referrals to programs such as Medicaid, AFDC, and Food Stamps. May perform other related administrative tasks.

This role is responsible for independently providing nutrition counseling, education, and promotion of health prevention strategies associated with the WIC program. The position is responsible for following WIC program guidelines, policies, and procedures. This position will work with the WIC Supervisor to plan new outreach events or promotions of the WIC program to the community. The role will also inform and notify the WIC Supervisor of any unexpected or potential client problems or barriers to service as required by the WIC policy and procedure manual.
