Job Description: Pharmacy Tech

Summary / Objective
The Pharmacy Tech position coordinates the drug refill and high interaction with patients, doctors,
PA’s, and nurses’ activities. The role is responsible for safe and efficient methods for coordination of established pharmacy policy concerning drug patient care and provides clinical drug information to meet the needs of the patient, nurse, or physician. Provides outstanding customer service.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews and interprets physicians’ orders for appropriateness (e.g., drugs prescribed and patient allergies) to ensure medication has been prescribed and interactions, incompatibilities or toxic compounds will not result from the combination of medications.
  • Ensures drugs are appropriately checked in, labeled, and stored.
  • Dispenses prescriptions to patients in accordance with Flourish Pharmacy policy and in conformance with regulations and laws dealing with the class of prescription; interacts with patients about medications and maintains an accurate, up-to-date patient profile.
  • Maintains necessary controls with respect to audited controlled drugs. Prepares controlled drug requests for delivery to designated address and ensures orders are accurate; processes returns as necessary.
  • Participates in in-service education programs when requested.
  • Provides high customer service by answering questions, being polite and courteous and caring to all customers face to face and over the phone.
  • Maintains a positive and instructional interaction with customers.
  • Performs patient drug data entry.
  • Processes Insurance claims as needed.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the profession by participating in organization memberships, attending meetings, in-services, and webinars; reading journals; and complying with National Standards of Continuing Education to maintain professional competency and proficiency.
  • Communicates with the Supervisor of Pharmacy Services on issues as necessary.
  • Ensures the quality of professional services is maintained at the highest level.

Required Education and Experience

Must have an Oklahoma Pharmacy Technician Certification
Must have 1 to 2 years of experience.

Work Environment
This job operates in a retail health care setting. Position is moderately active and requires frequent standing and walking to storage shelves and filling counters to fill prescriptions.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The ability to see distinctions in colors and shapes is also required. The individual must be able to lift 30 – 40 lbs.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Full-time: 40 hours a week. Weekdays 9 am – 6 pm and rotating schedule Saturdays 9 am – 12 noon.
Work during inclement weather is required.
