Supervisor Social Work – Children’s Hospital & Medical Center – Omaha, NE

We are currently searching for a Social Work Supervisor to serve as the Supervisor for Provisionally Licensed Medical Social Workers, Social Work practicum students and BSW program; Provides mentoring, role modeling and leadership for staff; Schedules regular supervisory sessions and coordinates onboarding, orientation, training, and evaluations on social workers and practicum students as required; and Serve on the Care Coordination Leadership Team and contribute to departmental goals and projects.

Essential Functions

  • Provides professional leadership in clinical aspects of provisionally licensed social work services.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs the work of the provisionally licensed medical social workers.
  • Supports and directs provisionally licensed social workers when dealing with complex psychosocial situations.
  • Provides direction in coordination of services and resource exploration.
  • Assists with coordination of multidisciplinary groups.
  • Provide monthly 1:1 supervision to allow social workers to reflect on their work and to develop/improve skills and knowledge
  • Provide weekly (1 hour each week per licensure requirements) group supervision for provisionally licensed group supervision.
  • Provides coordination and supervision of the Social Work Practicum Student Program.
  • Weekly provides required supervisory sessions in a group format and responses as necessary to individualized student needs.
  • Completes all paperwork needed in conjunction with task supervisors.
  • Recruits, interviews, and selects qualified student candidates from accredited schools of Social Work.
  • Collaborates with Children’s Office of Education to successfully host social work students.
  • Supervises and/or provides a variety of Social Work functions
  • Conducts psychosocial assessments related to the type of illness/needs present
  • Establishes professional working relationships with staff/families
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to understand the medical needs of the patients/families
  • Ensure documentation in thorough and consistent with the quality of work expected
  • Provides assessment and coordination of suspected child abuse/neglect cases
  • Provides consultation/interventions regarding legal issues such as determining guardianship and assisting with adoption cases
  • Provides appropriate patient education
  • Provides supportive counseling to patients/families
  • As directed by leadership, supervisor may provide direct care services as listed in sections 5 and 7.
  • Personnel Management
  • Assists with selection/hiring of employees and trains and/or oversees the training on job related tasks.
  • Conducts employee performance management duties including completion and delivery of performance evaluations, setting goals, dissemination of information, coaching, addressing performance issues/routine correction actions, and recommending termination of employment for provisionally licensed social workers.
  • Submits notifications for personnel actions (e.g., status changes, terminations).
  • Makes recommendations for human resource needs.
  • Provides coordination and supervision of the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Bachelors of Social Work (BSW) Program.
  • Assists in program development, monitoring and improvement.
  • Supervise and support BSW position
  • Provides reports utilizing captured data to report on efficacy of SDOH BSW program.
  • Defines performance expectations and practice standards for areas of responsibility.
  • Holds self and others accountable to meet stated objectives, outcomes, goals, timetables, and commitments
  • Works with staff and students to meet and exceed patient and parent expectations. Promotes movement of patient and family through a continuum of care.
  • Collaborates with NCM to assures safe discharge planning.
  • Assists staff in identifying and removing barriers to discharge.
  • Actively seeks resources to assist patients and families.
  • Encourages case/care conferences.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, systems thinking, and comprehensive understanding of interpersonal, medical and legal issues frequently arising in a hospital setting.
  • Requires knowledge of human behavior, social problems, counseling modalities and community resources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients/families, physicians, other health care professionals, attorneys, and law enforcement officials.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work required
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the social work field required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Current and valid Master Social Worker in the state of Nebraska is required
  • Current and valid Mental Health Practitioner in the state of Nebraska is required.
