Athletic Trainer – Excelsior Orthopaedics – Amherst, NY

Job Summary

Join our team of orthopedic and sports medicine experts to work in one of our various settings. Athletic Trainers work at the height of their license at Excelsior Orthopaedics, whether that be in our Express Urgent Care Clinic, clinical settings working alongside physicians and/or physical/occupational therapists, or in an outreach setting working at local high school.

With increased volume at current locations, anticipated growth at satellite locations, as well as continued interest from other area high schools to partner with Excelsior Orthopaedics, we are looking to add several patient-centered and team focused clinicians to our practice! Openings exist in:

Express Urgent Care Setting

  • Act as a clinical support specialist for the Express Team—assisting in patient care and maintaining patient flow to maximize efficiency
  • Provide professional direction and education to all athletes and patients in the areas of rest, recovery, nutrition, and hydration while adhering to standard precautions for patient care
  • Educate patients regarding injuries, reconditioning exercises, and/or injury recovery as appropriately directed by the physician
  • Apply knowledge of the general principles of preventative physical care for athletes, first aid treatment and referral, and post-injury rehabilitation

Outreach

  • Evaluate injuries and develop treatment and exercise plans within the scope of practice. Re-evaluate treatment plans as needed to ensure maximum patient benefit
  • Implement individualized therapeutic interventions and monitor responses to therapy to ensure client safety. Report progress and medical changes to referring physician
  • Educate clients, families, and coaches regarding injuries, risk factor modifications, and exercise programs
  • Conduct injury screening clinics, educational programs, and workshops to promote safety and injury prevention
  • Document patient treatment per professional and regulatory standards

Clinical Setting

  • Work closely with physical and occupational therapists to progress patients and maintain a safe and efficient patient flow
  • Teach and monitor athletes on proper and safe lifting/conditioning techniques
  • Educate patients regarding injuries, reconditioning exercises, and/or injury recovery as appropriately directed by the physician
  • Participate in health fairs, educational seminars, and expos, and other outreach events as needed
  • Identify patients that would benefit from Excelsior Sports Training Program (including Strides and Overhead Throwing Athletes)

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • BS in Athletic Training required
  • NYS license required
  • CPR/AED certification preferred
