Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Full Time Weekend Program, Evening and Night – Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson – Paterson, NJ

LPN- Residential Treatment Unit- Evening & Night Shift, Full Time

This position REQUIRES: Every Friday and Saturday evening, 3:00pm-11:00pm AND night shift 11:00pm-7:00am for 32 hours total, PLUS Sunday 11:00pm-7:00am for 40 total hours per week, Competitive hourly rate offered

Rate: $30 per hour with comprehensive benefit package, generous PTO and work life balance encouraged.

Job Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Works under the direction of the Registered Nurse and Medical Director
  • Medication administration to clients and children
  • Responsible for the accurate transcription of doctors orders to the medication administration record as well as refilling client medications when supply is low
  • Reports all problems and concerns to the Registered Nurse
  • Count, dispense and maintain accountability for controlled dangerous substances with accurate documentation. Maintain syringe count as per Straight and Narrow policy and procedure.
  • Maintain par levels on all stock medications
  • Maintaining accurate, timely documentation in nurse’s notes for all client concerns
  • Interview clients upon admission, obtaining information on medical history and substance abuse history for RN assessment notes
  • Maintains a safe environment for all clients and be knowledgeable with disaster, fire drills and emergency preparedness.
  • Follow up with client medical concerns in a timely manner
  • Participates in discharge planning in conjunction with RN and the counselor.
  • Participates in weekly MDT meetings.
  • Assist as needed and available with nursing coverage for other modalities of Straight and Narrow including residential and or detox services at 396 Straight St, methadone clinic and residential services at 595 County Ave for Alpha II on an as needed basis
  • Complete rapid and PCR testing for Covid-19 testing to clients and staff as indicated.
  • Maintain nursing license current as well as American Heart CPR/First Aid certification
  • Assists in transport of weekly methadone
  • Dispense medication as per physician orders and utilizing the nursing process, and maintain accurate records, including seeking clarification of the physician’s orders that are unclear or inappropriate.
  • Observe client’s needs, document, and report all unusual mental or physical reactions to the Medical Director or Registered Nurse
  • Ensure that medication supply is maintained for clients, order refills from pharmacy as needed. Transcribe and reconcile medications per MD order as needed. Communicates with pharmacy as needed.
  • Knowledge and implementation of state, federal and DEA regulations as it relates to substance abuse facilities.
  • Follow the physician’s written orders and assist with clients’ physical examinations, medical care and/or procedures, and client intakes as needed
  • Prepare and maintain adequate medical and other records
  • Maintaining documentation in nurse’s notes, noting all client changes. Recognize conditions that require immediate intervention and responds appropriately in emergent and non-emergent situations.
  • Responsible for completing and reviewing Beginning and End of Shift Controlled Substance Count with oncoming and outgoing staff and ensures staff compliance with department policy & procedures
  • Attends all scheduled nurse’s meetings and in-services.
  • Applies principles of infection control and safety.
  • Assists in the successful orientation of new personnel.
  • Participate in discharge planning and preparation (of clients) in conjunction with counseling/clinical staff.
  • Increase knowledge of treatment and client issues by attending and participating in staff development in-service sessions
  • Responsible for the nature and quality of nursing care including the plan of nursing care (within the interdisciplinary treatment plan) the implementation and the monitoring and evaluation of the plan.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills, prioritize care and apply clinical guidelines and best practices
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain nursing license current as well as American Heart CPR/First Aid certification
  • Document and gives/receives report at the beginning and end of shift when indicated
  • Participate in quality improvement projects
  • Communicates relevant patient care information with treatment team in a timely fashion
  • Initiates appropriate referrals to other departments, services and/or outside agencies for patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced in the addiction field, mental health or corrections is desired, but will extend orientation and training to the right candidate with an enthusiastic desire to learn
  • Being a team player that works fluidly with patients, families and interdisciplinary healthcare teams every step of the way
  • Must possess a caring and compassionate attitude with those whom may be struggling with recovery
  • LPN must have current and valid registration as an LPN in the State of New Jersey and must possess knowledge of the principles, procedures and methods of nursing practices
