Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, founded in 1975, is one of 51 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. The Center’s mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach.

The UNC Lineberger Office of Clinical & Translational Research (OCTR) (https://unclineberger.org/research/octr) supports the clinical and translational research efforts of The Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) by providing infrastructure, services and training to enable a broad range of local and multi-site research initiatives. The OCTR specializes in the management of biospecimens and clinical data, and works closely with clinicians and investigators to design and conduct innovative cancer research studies to better understand cancer and improve the lives of those living with it.

Position Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Technician in the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center is responsible for oversight of laboratory samples for all disease groups, including knowledge of trial-specific requirements, interactions with vendors, sample processing and shipping, and maintaining supplies. The Clinical Laboratory Technician is also responsible for attending biopsies & collecting specimens.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Working knowledge and facility with information technology; ability to acquire and apply knowledge from study and review of defined sources; ability to follow instructions; ability to collect, record, and document information; ability to review information for completeness and accuracy; ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing. Ability to coordinate work with others and contribute to a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Experience with processing and shipping laboratory samples as well as preparing study specific kits.
