PRN Pharmacist – Johnson County Healthcare Center – Buffalo, WY

The Johnson County Healthcare Center is looking for a PRN pharmacist.

PURPOSE: The Pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications, following prescriptions ordered by physicians to assure accurate and safe drug therapy.

DIMENSIONS: Employees Supervised: Pharmacy Tech (1-2)

ENVIRONMENT: The Johnson County Healthcare Center is a co-located facility licensed for 24 general and acute hospital beds and 44 skilled nursing home beds. The Pharmacy department of the hospital is responsible for compounding, dispensing, and manufacturing of drugs and intravenous solutions and patient profiling and charging.

FUNCTIONS:

1. The Pharmacist screens all incoming orders for initial doses or immediate drug orders and fills and dispenses such orders to assure prompt administration. This position prepares, labels, and dispenses all medications as ordered by the physician verifying the correct dosage, dosage form, schedule and strength. This position also prepares, labels and dispenses IV solutions and admixtures according to physician orders and aseptic standards.

2. The Pharmacist provides drug information as requested to physicians, nurses and other personnel in such areas as potential drug interactions, potential adverse drug reactions and elements which might bear on prescribing decisions; conducts patient profile studies for incompatibilities, interactions, contraindications and new warnings. This position remains up-to-date on current trends, techniques, and laws relating to drug therapy.

3. This position supplies nursing stations with floor stock and emergency drugs; checks nursing stations monthly to see that outdated drugs are returned to the pharmacy.

4. This position may perform additional duties as requested or required.

This position must understand and practice Universal Precautions, OSHA Classification, Category I.

A list of current functions of the Department of Pharmacy-Johnson County Healthcare Center:

HOSPITAL PHARMACY DUTIES:

1. Routine compounding of IV admixtures. This includes:

a) IVPB’s

b) Large Volume IV’s

c) IV Admixtures

2. Nursing unit surveys of stock medication and controlled drug distribution system.

3. Consulting on physicians questions on pharmacology and pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and drug interactions.

4. Maintaining patient profiles computerized program PDR-RX and PDR ACCESS

5. Code Response – ACLS certified – CPR Certified Instructor.

6. Discharge Planning.

7. Drug Interactions on all patients computerized PDR-RX.

8. PCA pump programmed and administered through Pharmacy.

AMIE HOLT CARE CENTER DUTIES:

1. Residents chart review monthly.

2. Drug Interactions on all residents computerized PDR-RX

3. Working with drug utilization reviews, computerized program EVALUATE- RX

4. Maintaining patient profiled computerized program PDR ACCESS

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

The position of Pharmacist requires a current license as a Pharmacist in the state of Wyoming. Previous hospital experience is desired. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate technical competency and expertise in pharmacy practice; be able to follow policies and procedures.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Prepares labels and dispenses drugs and IV solutions or admixtures to assure that the patient receives their drug therapy as ordered by the physician and as scheduled.

2. Maintains patient records to assure that the patient receives accurate and rational drug therapy and to assure accurate drug charges.

3. Performs work efficiently to ensure an economical operation of the department.

4. Checks and inspects drug preparation, labeling and dispensing to ensure that the physician’s orders are properly carried out.

5. Interacts cooperatively with physicians and hospital staff to ensure a positive work environment.

6. Follows and promotes safety and aseptic procedures to assure that proper drug therapy activities are conducted.
