GROUP/DIVISION SUMMARY

The Director, Portfolio & Program Management is part of our Genetic Sciences Division (GSD), which provides industry-leading genetic sciences tools and solutions to advance scientific discovery, enable customers in applied markets and improve global health outcomes. Specifically, GSD workflows enable biomarker discovery and analysis, predictive genomics, reproductive health solutions, pathogen detection, disease-specific solutions, forensics and human identification.

POSITION SUMMARY

As the Director, Portfolio & Program Management, you will lead the product development portfolio, a team of program managers, and collaborative cross-functional teams to define and deliver commitments: demonstrating feasibility for new technologies, commercializing new products, or improving on-market products, using our stage-gate or iterative processes to deliver to the agreed scope, schedule, and budget, while managing execution, risks, trade-offs, expectations, and communications.

This position may be remotely based in the US, preferably on the West Coast, and will be tied to the business out of our South San Francisco, CA facility.

Key Responsibilities:

You’ll ensure in-flight programs and projects are prioritized and completed flawlessly, driving the road-mapping and multi-generational product planning processes, and leading continuous improvement.

You’ll lead a team of Program Managers, hiring and developing extraordinary people, optimally matching people to the right roles and assignments, and holding the team accountable to commitments.

You’ll manage complex programs and projects, delivering on scope, schedule, and budget commitments while developing project teams, and building positive relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or Life Science required; MS, MBA or Ph.D. preferred.

  • PMP certification and advanced leadership training also preferred.

  • 15+ years of life science or medical device product development experience, including 5+ years each of portfolio management, people management, and technical project management experience required; experience with genetic analysis technologies and in-vitro diagnostics preferred.

  • Intrinsically motivated, accountable, and committed to professional development.

  • Excellent written and verbal communicator; outstanding relationship builder.

  • Effective at influencing and leading without direct authority.

  • Ability to lead and drive complex decisions and solve problems.

  • Strong product development technical and business expertise.
