Position Summary
Upstream seeks an entrepreneurial, collaborative and organized individual to join our Investor Relations team in our Development Office. This position will report to the Director of Investor Relations and work closely with the Investor Relations Officer and other key members of the development team to support Upstream’s national fundraising efforts.
The Investor Relations Associate will play a critical role in supporting our national fundraising efforts, assisting with the team’s relationship management functions, including (but not limited to) upkeep of SalesForce database records, staffing meetings, supporting preparation of materials, distilling and organizing notes, and drafting timely, highly-personalized acknowledgements. They will collaborate closely with the Development Operations Associate and build an understanding of the tools and processes that drive the team’s work forward. In addition, the Associate will gain exposure to multiple aspects of Upstream’s program and support the curation and development of written materials, grant reports and proposals, as well as other content utilized for various investor communications. They will also support the prospecting function as we look ahead toward our next phase of growth.
An ideal candidate will have an interest in non-profit administration and fundraising, coupled with some experience (volunteer or professional) in nonprofits, philanthropy, communications, fundraising, sales, customer service, or a related field. They will bring a strong command of writing and an eye for grammar.
This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to dive into the field of development or for a more experienced professional to gain exposure to an organization successfully soliciting and stewarding large seven and eight figure gifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages and refines best-in-class gift acknowledgement process, ensuring accurate, timely acknowledgement of all donations and record keeping
  • Supports the members of the Investor Relations and Development teams in maintaining Salesforce database with accurate records of investor relationships, tasks, meeting notes, etc., partnering with our Development Operations Team in support of accurate and timely record keeping
  • Monitor and manage all deadlines related to grant proposals and reporting in partnership with the Development Operations Team
  • Supports the development and execution of grant reports and proposals through content curation and initial drafting
  • Copyedits, proofreads, and formats grant proposals and reports
  • Contributes to prospect research efforts by drafting and culling investor research

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Undergraduate degree preferred, with some experience (volunteer or professional) in nonprofits, philanthropy, communications, fundraising, sales, customer service, or a related field.
  • Interest and commitment to Upstream’s mission and vision
  • Solutions oriented project manager with comfort working as part of a team and independently
  • Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative team member
  • Experience managing up to team members, including managing multiple, changing priorities to drive toward deadlines
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Strong writing and copy editing ability
  • Desire to grow experience, skills and learn from mistakes
  • Experience with Salesforce (or other CRM) a plus; must have solid command of PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and G-Suite
  • Commitment to high-quality work with attention to detail
  • High level of interpersonal maturity, discretion and poise
