Responsibilities

Job Summary

The DENTAL HYGIENIST provides direct patient contact and evaluation. This would include removing soft and hard deposits from teeth, teaching patients how to practice good oral hygiene, and providing other preventive dental care. The Dental Hygienist assists the Dentist by taking and developing radiographs, examining patient’s teeth and gums, and recording the presence of disease or abnormalities and applying cavity preventive agents such as, fluorides and sealants as directed by the Dentist.

Performs the practice of dental hygiene in the evaluation, prevention and treatment of human diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity, the maxillofacial area and the adjacent and associated structures within the dental hygienists scope of education, training and experience and according to the ethics of the profession and applicable law.

Expose and process radiographs

Apply topical fluoride and varnish

Perform all functions authorized and deemed appropriate for dental assistants

Apply preventative and therapeutic agents, used in relationship to dental procedures to hard and soft tissues.

Returns patient calls in a timely manner.

Reviews patient medical/dental records, tests and study results to make recommendations for dental hygiene treatment options, including appropriateness of second opinions for patients requesting such service.

Provides state of the art care utilizing latest dental advances. Uses scientific evidence to develop dental hygiene treatment plans.

Follows evidence based dental hygiene treatment guidelines. Completes dental records in a timely fashion.

Communicates with primary and referring dentists or physicians as necessary for providing dental hygiene care.

Qualifications

Education

Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene Required

Experience

5 years as a Licensed Dental Hygienist Required

Other Ability to read English language

Ability to write English language

Required

Other Actively engaged in dental hygiene practice for at least 2,000 hours in the five years immediately preceding the affiliated practice relationship Required
