Central Oregon Pediatric Associates (COPA) of Bend, Oregon, the largest pediatric practice in the region, is hiring a full time Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). *Qualified candidates who are newly hired at COPA may be eligible for COPA’s sign on and service bonus. The Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is responsible for conducting ongoing assessments and mutually developing the patient plan of care for breastfeeding mothers who seek services in both our Bend and Redmond locations. The IBCLC follows breastfeeding practices and the policy and procedures at COPA, assists in procedures that are within the scope of Lactation Consultant practice, seeks assistance and support, when necessary, assists in data collection, organizes those aspects of patient care for which they are responsible, and maintains accountability for own practice.

The role of the Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) will include but is not limited to the following duties:
- Provide support and encouragement to enable mothers to successfully meet their breastfeeding goals.
- Perform comprehensive maternal, child and feeding assessments related to lactation using current lactation theories and research.
- Develop and implement individualized feeding plan that address individual feeding issues, such as nutritional requirements, in consultation with the mother.
- Provide evidence-based information regarding a mother’s use, during lactation, of medications (over the counter and prescription), alcohol, tobacco and street drugs, and their potential impact on milk production and child safety.
- Provide evidence-based information regarding complementary therapies during lactation and their impact on a mother’s milk production and the effect on her child.
- Integrate cultural, psychosocial and nutritional aspects of breastfeeding into lactation encounters, feeding plans and follow up care.
- Use effective counselling skills when interacting with clients and other health care providers.
- Use the principles of family-centered care while maintaining a collaborative, supportive relationship with families and care providers.
- Remain current with practice of lactation consulting and professional development.
- Learn new use of adaptive devices, safety information, etc. to provide a safe patient care environment.
- Thorough and timely lactation encounter documentation and billing.
- Other duties as assigned within the lactation consultant’s scope.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Licensure:
- Graduate from a Pathway 2 Accredited Lactation Academic Program required.
- Current Board-Certified Lactation Consultant in good standing, issued by International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.
Specialized Skills and Knowledge:
- Outpatient lactation experience required.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse population; superior lactation process skills; strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills; ability to make independent judgments and prioritize workload; knowledge of community services; ability to multi-task and work independently.
Computer Literacy:
- Electronic Medical Record experience required, Epic EMR experience preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level in person, over the telephone or through use of other required technology. Sitting or standing for long periods of time. Frequent repetitive motion includes computer keyboard use, reaching with hands and arms, and walking. Occasional lifting and or moving up to 30 pounds and on rare occasion up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include viewing computer monitor for long periods of time, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Working Conditions
- Work inside in a general medical office setting with ergonomically configured equipment.
- The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to mechanical parts and chemicals including odors. The employee has been identified as having the likelihood of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials, therefore are included in the OSHA Exposure Control Plan with specification for preventing contact with the above materials.
- Travel between COPA clinics, business office and community partners as required.
