Patient Care Assistant-FIT

Float Pool – (Full-time, Night Shift) –

The Patient Care Assistant-FIT (Internal Float Pool) functions across a specified collection of departments known as a supplement unit-based resource during periods of high census fluctuation and staffing needs. Functions out of a home department and self-schedules or is assigned to units on an as needed basis. Acts as team members on multiple units taking full assignments. Assists with care to the patient under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), ensuring a safe, comfortable, and healing environment. Acts as a member of the health care team to ensure exceptional guest services, communicate patient concerns and observations, and ensure the patient’s right to privacy and dignity. Demonstrates ethical and legal behaviors within their identified scope of practice. Duties will be performed as assigned by the Primary Care Nurse, Charge Nurse, Manager or Director. Performs other duties as needed.

High School Diploma or GED required. Successful completion of an approved Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program OR proof of satisfactory completion of Fundamentals of Nursing for Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) OR a minimum of six months experienced as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) in area of specialty or an appropriate equivalent required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred.

Flexibility and the ability to work on multiple units. Speaks and reads English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Interpersonal skills to effectively work with peers and patients. Exemplary customer service skills – in person, answering telephones and call lights. Understands basic documentation via Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position (ie Microsoft Windows, Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, internet, timekeeping, e-mail); troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment (ie Intravenous (IV) pumps, Electrocardiogram (ECG) monitors, vital sign machines, bed and gurney operation, and the like). Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place and patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
