Aviation Planner – Garmin – Wichita, KS

We are seeking a full-time Aviation Planner in Wichita, Kansas. In this role, you will be responsible for managing moderately complex production flow of material and products, applying knowledge of production planning, warehouse and inventory control systems and processes along with other related activities around these aviation planning functions. Other essential functions include:

  • Proficiently applies knowledge and understanding of lean practices, DRP, and MRP in performance of moderately complex planning tasks and/or projects

  • Executes production schedules based on material availability and capacity planning functions

  • Identifies priorities and expedites material through the manufacturing or distribution processes

  • Monitors daily production to insure product flows at scheduled rates to warehouses and customers

  • Maintains open shop order due dates and ensure proper and timely closure of shop orders

  • Coaches manufacturing associates and managers on proper shop floor and inventory control policies and procedures

  • Reviews shop order routings for compliance with actual material flow and process times

  • Create and maintain safety stocks to meet optimal inventory levels of units (LRU’s), accessories and other items as required

  • Supports new product introduction process with Engineering and Manufacturing

  • Communicates with Forecasting, Purchasing and Manufacturing to resolve material shortages and support unanticipated demands

  • Review and be supportive to continuously improve products, processes and associates

  • Updates Key Process Indicators (KPI) or other reports and metrics as required or directed by management

  • Represents Garmin at offsite locations if required

  • Understands product structures and Bills of Materials

  • Serves as a mentor to less experienced Planner (Associate Planner) and shares information and ideas willingly

  • Applies Garmin’s Mission Statement & Quality Policy and exhibits enthusiasm for and a desire to see Garmin succeed

  • Uses systems to facilitate MRP order releases and create IR/ISO’s (Internal Requisition/Internal Sales Order)

  • Ability to use IT systems to perform administrative responsibilities including creation of BOM’s (Bill of Materials) and processing ECOs (Engineering Change Orders) when required

Qualified candidates possess a Bachelors Degree OR Associates Degree from a two year college or university AND 3 years experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description OR High School Diploma or equivalent AND 5 years experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other requirements include:

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrates intermediate proficiency and knowledge of current Microsoft Office software

  • Understanding of DRP and MRP or other planning tools or used by the department

  • Demonstrates full proficiency and knowledge of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRPII)/Master Production Schedule (MPS) process and other planning tools required to perform essential functions of this role

  • Demonstrates full knowledge of warehouse, manufacturing and service processes

  • Understanding of supply chain processes defined in assigned area of responsibility

  • Understands and implements lean practices

  • Demonstrates ability to extract and evaluate data for decision making purposes
