On Call Librarians will be available to work scheduled shifts (evenings up to 10 or 11pm, and/or weekends), and to fill in on short notice when possible.

1. Building Related Duties:

  • Open and/or close the library building
  • Enforce policies, including COVID-19 related campus and New York State mandates
  • Report building maintenance needs

2. Circulation Related Duties:

  • Support the work of Student Library Assistants
  • Staff circulation desk as needed
  • Assist individuals with directional questions and provide general customer service
  • Use Library Management System to check items in and out, locate materials, and do basic searching
  • Process reserve and interlibrary loan items
  • Refer non-library questions to the appropriate IT Help Desk, Learning Center, Distance Learning, or Mario CafĂ© personnel
  • Manage study room reservations

3. Reference Related Duties:

  • Assist patrons with basic reference questions in person, by telephone and email, and via digital chat
  • Refer complex reference questions to appropriate colleagues
  • Project work including reviewing documents, online research guides, link checking, outreach and assessment

4. Other reasonable duties as assigned


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Outstanding communication skills appropriate to a post-secondary education environment
  • Extraordinary commitment to public service
