Location: New Port Richey

General Description: Technical work in inspecting plumbing systems and sanitary installations, construction, alteration, and repair to enforce compliance with adopted codes. Investigative work in plumbing contractor-licensing investigations and plumbing systems, and sanitary installations investigations. Employees are responsible for performing both field and office work in the County plumbing inspection program. Duties require technical examination and the application of standard trade practices to inspection work.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.

Makes preliminary, final, and periodic inspections of plumbing systems and sanitary facilities to ensure compliance with regulations. Investigates all complaints of violations. Advises contractors, builders, and homeowners on plumbing systems and sanitary installations. Performs records maintenance, clerical work, and activity reports. Performs related work as required.

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Requires working indoors and outdoors. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle to visit job sites. Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, and climb to make inspections. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Applicants must have five (5) years of experience in the plumbing construction trade as a supervisor, foreman, plumbing contractor, or licensed journeyman. This experience must be verifiable and signed off by a contractor, engineer or architect or they will not qualify to apply for the provisional Plumbing Inspector license.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license. Applicants must obtain provisional license as a Plumbing Inspector within 120 days of hire. Applicants must have five (5) years of verified experience, signed off by a contractor, engineer or architect to be able to qualify to be provisionally licensed as a Plumbing Inspector and to take the inspector examination. Applicants must successfully pass examinations to achieve F.S. 468 Standard Certification as a Plumbing Inspector within one (1) year from date of hire to fulfill minimum Plumbing Inspector I certification standards.
