Paralegal/Legal Assistant – Feeney & Murray, P.C. – Brentwood, TN

ABOUT:

Feeney & Murray, P.C. is a small, but industrious firm that specializes the fields of insurance defense, personal injury, workers’ compensation, and wrongful death. This particular opening is for a paralegal position working for John Thomas Feeney, Esq.

THE ROLE:

One will be responsible for maintaining the attorney’s case files and schedule concerning court dates, mediations, depositions, conferences, trials, and client meetings. The individual will also be responsible for drafting pleadings and cover letters, performing legal research, and communicating with clients to assist in the litigation process. Please see below for a consolidated list of duties:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in organizing electronic and physical information and updates.
  • Organizes and indexes case files and documents produced.
  • Determines pre-trial and trial calendars’ deadlines.
  • Performs a wide variety of legal research and data compilation, with little or no supervision.
  • Assists with preparation of pleadings to be filed with the Court.
  • Prepares materials in support of dispositive motions.
  • Drafts a wide variety of legal documents.
  • Reviews documents on document network and prepares for production along with a privilege log when necessary.
  • Prepares meetings, mediations, hearings, and trials.
  • Communicates with witnesses and clients.
  • Assists with scheduling.
  • Enters billing and expense data into Timeslips software in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates major projects or cases, some of which may involve the work of multiple paralegals.

For this position, one must be very detail oriented, punctual, and able to adapt to shifting goals throughout the work day. The ability to communicate promptly and clearly is greatly appreciated.

THE SKILL SET

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Prior assistant-related experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, shift focus, adapt to changing priorities, maintain patience in high pressure situations and take initiative where appropriate.
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong work ethic and sense of professionalism and discretion, demonstrating accountability, integrity, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Precision/detail-oriented with strong analytical skills. Solid customer service focus and flexibility.
  • Trustworthy, positive, energetic, and optimistic attitude.
