Planner
Salary: $44,114 – $61,763 Annually

Under direct supervision, the Planner is responsible administers the Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Ordinances, and Subdivision Regulation Ordinances, prepares documents, reports, and studies related to future land use, development standards, demographics, population, transportation, and environment.


Minimum Qualifications
:

  • Texas Class C Driver’s License
  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public policy, or related area of study.
  • Five (5) years of experience in planning and/or comprehensive planning and; or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Primary And Supplemental Duties:

  • Attend all Planning & Zoning Commission meetings, City Commission, Board of Adjustment, and special meetings as required.
  • Provide professional support to the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Commission.
  • Coordinate and prepare informational materials and place development plans and zoning exhibits on agendas for the City Commission, Planning & Zoning Commission and other boards and committees as required.
  • Coordinate and facilitate development review and pre-submittal meetings with other departments.
  • Ensure that zoning and development cases are processed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and consistency in the preparation of staff reports before forwarding to the Director.
  • Meet with applicants to ensure compliance with planning and other related ordinances and policies; Seek solutions to complex issues.
  • Administer and enforce zoning, subdivision and planning regulations and ordinances.
  • Prepare reports, studies, and policy statements related to research, surveys, and development standards for the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances.
  • Coordinate and revise development standards, present revised standards to boards, commissions, and City Commission to implement new or revised standards that meet new regulations/standards implemented at the regional, State and Federal level.
  • Establish databases to aid in the coordination, collection and analysis of data related to Federal, State, Regional and City zoning and planning ordinances and codes.
  • Conduct reviews of various development applications including plats, permits, site plans, variance requests, and rezoning.
  • Write and present formal and technical reports, working papers, and correspondence.
  • Develop long-range plans for communities with common developmental issues.
  • Write, or assist in writing, a variety of ordinances and regulations relating to development controls.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of public planning and development; and attend training sessions, conferences, and events as necessary.
  • Attend a substantial number of evening meetings.
