The world’s leading private security organization, G4S, has an immediate job opportunity for a Juvenile Assessment Center Officer . As a Juvenile Assessment Center Officer, you will manage the general conduct and behavior of detainees, the maintenance of discipline, and the custodial, life and social skills training, recreation, transportation and housekeeping functions. The JAC Officer must make every attempt to minimize adverse effects of confinement by supporting the detainee’s physical, emotional, educational, and social development in an atmosphere which is as nonthreatening as possible.
A Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) is a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year operation. The JAC is an intake, booking and release facility for juveniles arrested in a county by law enforcement agencies. The JAC Officer is responsible for overseeing the process of arrested juveniles to be received, photographed, searched, fingerprinted, running checks for outstanding warrants via FCIC/NCIC and reporting warrant hits to local law enforcement. The JAC Officer shall be trained to effectively communicate, monitor and control the juvenile’s behavior. The JAC Officer shall be trained in juvenile corrections techniques to physically control detained youth. The JAC Officer shall consistently report, document, log activities and remain vigilant in oversight of the juveniles. The JAC Officer works closely with other onsite providers to facilitate the flow of information between the in-house agencies as they perform screening and court related functions. The JAC Officer shall make proper notifications for emergency and non-emergency medical response (Example: 911 notifications for medical emergencies and addiction recovery facility for Use of Force evaluation) and generate reports on significant issues to include all “Use of Force” incidents.

Specific Duties and Essential Functions
- Maintain an orderly disciplined environment on the shift while representing professionalism
- Prepares detainees for admission, release and court appearances outside facility
- Ensures facility is maintained in a clean and safe condition at all times
- Maintains the security of the facility
- Permit authorized persons to enter property and monitors entrances and exits
- Counsels individually with disruptive detainees; uses the option of confinement only as a last resort when a youth is beyond control
- Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities
- Physically intervene with out-of-control youths
Education, Licenses and Certifications Required
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must submit to a state licensing test if driving a company-owned or client-provided vehicle
- Must possess, or be able to obtain, a Class D Security Officer License issued by the State of Florida
Type and Length of Specific Experience Required
- Must possess one or more of the following:
- Former or retired certified public law enforcement and/or adult corrections officer, with a minimum of two (2) years of experience, with the completion of a law enforcement and/or adult correctional academy
- Former or retired certified military law enforcement and/or adult corrections with a favorable discharge, with a minimum of two (2) years experience, with the completion of a law enforcement and/or adult correctional academy
- Service in Military Occupational Specialty related to law enforcement, security (such as Military Police, Elite Military Forces, combat arms) or any support role in a Combat Zone
- Graduate of a Certified Public Safety Academy (military or civilian) in the law enforcement, adult corrections, or firefighter field
- Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or criminal justice related studies
- A minimum of 8 or more years of active service in any military branch
- Associate’s degree (or 60 credits) or higher in law enforcement or criminal justice with current or prior active military service

- Must be at least 18 years old or the minimum age required by the state, if higher
- Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
- Must be able to work flexible schedules
- Must have access to reliable transportation
- Must be able to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors
- Must be able to interact cordially and communicate with the public
- Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
- Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military
Physical Requirements and Environment
Environment: Indoor and outdoor, temperature ranges from moderate to extreme cold and heat
Major activity: Walking, standing, speaking, listening, observing
Physical efforts to carry out job duties: Standing, walking, and sitting. Minimal to no stooping or kneeling. Occasionally, physically exert 50 pounds of force.
