The Product Development Engineer role will design and develop fixture designs. Including mechanical system, electrical system, heat management system, and optical system designs for new products, product improvements, and value engineering projects.

Support new designs from concept to launch following Kichler NPI process. This includes items such as conceptual design, detailed design, component and material selection, Simulation/FEA, prototype, test, safety approvals, and production implementation.

Perform tasks directly or work with others to ensure projects remains on schedule including prototyping, lab work, measurement and testing.

Participate in defining product specifications, design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA), engineering and CAD reviews, product & process qualifications.

Participate in risk assessment activities and drive abatement activities within multi-functional distributed team.

Provide technical advice and assistance to peers, suppliers, and customers as to design, material specifications, testing procedures, product quality, and change management.

Manage numerous projects concurrently.

  • Engineering Degree from accredited institution (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Preferred)
  • 0 – 5 years engineering experience
  • Professional work experience in Consumer Packaged Goods or SSL/LED lighting fixture design ideal
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude
  • Background in Onshape and/or SolidWorks preferred.
  • Self-starter and able to work under general project direction
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Mandarin a plus.
  • Able to balance multiple projects concurrently and function in a collaborative Global environment
  • Shown understanding or basic manufacturing and fabrication methods preferred, e.g. die casting, injection molding, extrusion, product assembly, etc.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally (<10%)
  • Night/early morning calls required to collaborate with team and suppliers in Asia

$75,000 – $94,00 annual salary
