Pre Arrival and Healthcare Coordinator (Part-Time) – World Relief Corporation – Spokane, WA

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will fulfill the role of coordinating and/or carrying out pre-arrival and medical R&P duties in accordance with the R&P Cooperative Agreement and World Relief’s Mission, Vision and Values and policies.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare case files for new arrivals or monitor the preparation done by other staff
  • Call UST prior to arrival to discuss housing, Basic Needs Items and airport arrival plans. If No-UST case, develop a temporary housing plan
  • Work in partnership with Housing Coordinator and Case Specialists to secure permanent housing for new arrivals
  • Assist with occasional airport arrivals with the purpose of removing the burden of evening arrivals and some daytime arrivals from case managers
  • R&P arrival and post-arrival assistance such as: Occasional airport arrivals, bus training, home visits, and case assistance including case noting any services provided
  • Provide health and hygiene orientation in accordance with the Cooperative Agreement and with respect to the WA state medical care available, medical facilities and rights and responsibilities therein
  • Ensure refugee health screening clinic is aware of arrivals and is scheduling all individuals in a timely manner
  • Provide or arrange for transportation to the initial screening. Provide or arrange for training on accessing the screening clinic and primary providers
  • Communicate with schools and other service providers any pertinent medical information in accordance with grant mandates and special situations by special release
  • Alert case manager, job developer and other relevant parties to major issues and document activities in each client file through timely case notes which reflect the status of each case
  • Train refugee clients to meet their own health care needs by teaching them to make appointments and by teaching them to find medical providers on the bus line, use a calendar, make appointments, get prescriptions filled, keep a health notebook and communicate pertinent information to physicians
  • Oversee interns and volunteers concerning pre-arrival and medical services
  • Provide education in the home in areas of hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, food preparation, and resourcefulness
  • Assess for cultural adjustment and document demonstrated understanding
  • Notify appropriate case manager when follow up is needed and/or completed if provided by you or intern staff
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of service for all arrivals and medical services in accordance with program guidelines


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Experience working in U.S. health care system is preferred
  • Able to advocate for refugees with medical needs
  • Cultural competence
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) as well as one other language common to the office caseload (Russian, Swahili, French, Arabic or Spanish)
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft office products

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • General office setting.
  • Great lengths of time working on computer, reading from computer screen, entering information, standing at copier or fax machine, and some time on the phone or in skype meetings may be required.
