Responsible for the operational performance of the Department of Imaging. Prepares staffing schedule to ensure that all modalities are adequately covered to meet patient volume needs. Works with radiologists and referring physicians to ensure that diagnostic procedures are performed and produces images of exceptional quality. Oversees the department’s operational budget to meet organizational goals. Responsible for overseeing Radiation Safety Program. Coordinates and oversees the effective functioning of the department’s information system and image processing system. Assists with oversight of various local, state, and federal regulations related to imaging, ensuring compliance. Works in coordination with other organization departments on issues related to the Continuous Quality Improvement process. Works with the staff to ensure professional development including cross-training opportunities. Provides technical backup within the department to ensure effective workflow. Performs other duties in the facility as deemed necessary by the Chief Nursing Officer.
Minimum Qualifications
- A.R.R.T. required
- State Licensure, as required
- CPR Certification
- Must be clinically competent with MR, CT, Diagnostic X-Ray
- Minimum two years radiology technologist experience required in Imaging Center or hospital department
- Previous supervisory/ management experience
- Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs
- College Degree preferred
- Additional Registry preferred
Essential Functions
- Orients staff to the department/hospital policies and procedures including documentation of orientation and skills checklists.
- Ensures that adequate supplies are available for use by staff for diagnostic imaging procedures.
- Works directly with the radiologists and referring physicians to establish protocols for diagnostic procedures.
- Ensures that technologists are performing imaging procedures of acceptable diagnostic quality and according to protocols and parameters set forth by department procedure or by a radiologist.
- Oversees the effective functioning of the department’s information system and connectivity to the hospital system.
- Ensures that imaging charges are entered daily into the system for accurate and timely billing of imaging patients.
- Ensures the department’s image processing system is functioning appropriately for timely radiologist and referring physician review of imaging procedures.
- Oversees imaging department expenses versus budgeted allocations for successful operational performance.
- Oversees and monitors all aspects of patient safety specifically related to radiation protection and MRI.
- Works with technologists on professional growth and development including cross-training opportunities.
- Is knowledgeable of the various local, state, and federal regulations relating to the imaging department to ensure compliance.
- Provides coverage to the imaging area in those areas of expertise to assist with the efficient workflow of the department.
- Oversees the radiation protection and MRI safety programs for the imaging department and reports same to the Continuous Quality Improvement committee.
- Coordinates monthly staff meetings with imaging staff to provide feedback, education, and communication on department and or hospital-specific issues.
- Coordinates necessary inspections by medical radiation physicist in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Serves as a resource to hospital staff and management on all imaging-related issues including participation on various committees as assigned.
- Ensures that the imaging department is maintained in a clean and organized manner.
- Provides input to the Chief Nursing Officer and/or CEO of the hospital on future imaging equipment capital needs.
- Serves as the contact point for patient, physician, and/or family complaints with the services provided by the imaging department.
- Stays current on new protocols, software changes, policies and procedures, regulations, and quality assurance.
- Is professional and courteous, consistent with the position of Imaging Manager and as a representative of Aspen Mountain Medical Center.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
