About the Job:

The Indiana Veterans’ Home is currently seeking a LPN to work in the Nursing Department of the Indiana Veterans’ Home and perform all aspects of nursing care, within the scope of the Indiana Nurse Practice Act, with moderate supervision. May direct the work of CNA’s and QMA’s, following predetermined standards and routines. Reports to the unit manager, but also takes directives from the shift supervisor (RN) on the evening and night shifts.

A Day in the Life:

Administers medications or treatments prescribed by a physician; Observes patients/residents and keeps accurate patients’ records concerning vital signs, etc.; Contacts physicians and takes orders in the absence of a professional nurse; Assists in specialized programs for patients, if necessary, such as re-motivation groups, sensory stimulation and behavior modification after completion of designated in-service training program; Assists physicians in physical examinations of patients/residents; Orders supplies and medicines; Specialized knowledge of principles of nursing care and ability to apply them; Working knowledge of sanitary conditions, proper housekeeping and personal hygiene; Working knowledge of patients’/residents’ behavior and its meaning; Performs related duties as required.

What We’e Looking For:

  • Possession of a valid Indiana licensed practical nurse license issued by the Indiana Health Professions Bureau required; or possession of a valid temporary license issued by the Indiana Health Professions Bureau required;
  • or eligibility to take the National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s National Council Licensure Examination – Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN) for the first time following graduation from an accredited licensed practical nurse program required.

What You’ll Need For Success:

  • Specialized knowledge of principles of nursing care and ability to apply them;
  • Working knowledge of sanitary conditions, proper housekeeping and personal hygiene;
  • Working knowledge of patients’/residents’ behavior and its meaning;
  • Ability to maintain patients’/residents’ records and prepare reports;
  • Ability to maintain good relationships and direct work of other paraprofessional and nonprofessional staff;
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to safely set up and administer medications and treatments.

Salary: salary will be commensurate with experience
