Having recently celebrated our 42nd year anniversary of serving the youth and families in the Montgomery County community, we are proud of our transition from meager beginnings to now having five (5) mental and behavioral health centers and of being in the final stages of completing the expansion of our residential youth shelter from capacity of 15 beds to 30 beds.

Mission:
YES to YOUTH – MCYS strengthens the emotional and mental health development of youth and families by providing crisis intervention, counseling, and suicide prevention services. We provide a safe and nurturing home where abused, battered, sex-trafficked, homeless, and at-risk youth begin healing from the past and become empowered for the future.

BridgeWay Emergency Youth Shelter Program Summary:
YES to YOUTH – MCYS BridgeWay Shelter is an Emergency Shelter designed to provide shelter, food, social activities, and clothing to young people ages 10-17. Our main goal is to provide safety to young boys and girls who may be new to the child welfare system and find themselves homeless. Youth may stay at BridgeWay up to 90 days or longer. Our shelter also offers a 21-Day Community Placement program that provides respite for families struggling with crises and are working through our Counseling program to resolve family conflict in positive ways.

While at BridgeWay, youth have all of their physical and emotional needs met. They are given access to medical, vision, and dental care, and mental and behavioral health care. They are enrolled in school and encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities, life skills education, part time jobs, and community service projects.

We promote healing from trauma with our residents and we support our residents in their goals and attainment.

Summary of Resident Advisor Position:
The YES to YOUTH – MCYS BridgeWay Emergency Youth Shelter is looking for an overnight Full-time Resident Advisor.

The BridgeWay Shelter is an Emergency Youth Shelter program serving homeless survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking. The Resident Advisor – PRN for the BridgeWay Shelter is responsible for providing daily care and supervision, positive role-modeling, structure, facility–related emergency and basic needs support to BridgeWay

Shelter residents and ensuring their health, safety and well-being are protected. The Shelter schedule is set a month at a time, but the ideal candidate will be able to pick up additional shifts with short notice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, and other duties may be assigned:

• Maintaining a nurturing, therapeutic and safe environment by establishing a consistent daily routine, providing appropriate supervision at all times; monitoring environment and mass media (movies, TV, radio, written materials, and cell phone usage) for appropriate content.
• Assigning and monitor completion of age appropriate chores, develop, plan and execute appropriate and enrichening activities to decrease boredom and restlessness, and request necessary supplies for special occasions and/or special activities.

• Maintaining living areas in a good state of cleanliness and order, and maintain adequate supplies for cleaning.

• Providing for the children’s physical needs by obtaining and helping children maintain clean, adequate, appropriate clothing and other personal items and by teaching children personal grooming habits and nutritional values.

• Recognizing signs and symptoms of illness, by treating minor ailments and seeking appropriate guidance from the shelter supervisor. Filling prescriptions as needed; administering medications as prescribed by child’s physician as well as monitoring for side effects.

• Submitting prompt, accurate documents such as serious incident reports, daily logs, accident reports, restraint reports, etc.

• Assist residents with goals, daily living activities, and transporting children when necessary.

• Guiding children and establishing a trusting relationship with mutual respect, by listening to children with compassion and concern, by using praise and encouragement for positive behavior and consequences (natural or imposed) for inappropriate behavior, and by providing support for a child when needed.

• Inspiring each child through innovative techniques to achieve their maximum potential and develop inner strength, being a positive leader in the shelter, and display appropriate boundaries and role modeling of adult interactions.

• Positively interacting with parents, caseworkers, teachers, therapists and other staff by recognizing that children need to feel they are a part of a family, peer group and the community and avoiding criticism of children’s families and friends.

• Responsible for supervising and interacting with residents while maintaining appropriate boundaries, communication, consistency, flexibility and compassion.

• Conduct drug testing as requested by Shelter Director.

• Ability to work various shifts including nights and weekends.

• Complete resident daily logs, record pertinent information, and staff the next shift workers.

• Responsible for monitoring the overall safety of the residents and condition of the property. Resolve problems in a timely and professional manner.

• Provide support to BridgeWay residents with crisis intervention, de-escalation, safety planning, problem solving, access to food and basic needs items, lease-related documentation, and submission of maintenance requests.

• Document all client interactions, crisis response, maintenance requests, incidents, lease violations and provide daily shift log to Resident Advisor Supervisors.

• Assist BridgeWay residents to meet their basic needs: coordinate the stocking and distribution of the BridgeWay food, clothing, and personal care items; oversee requests to fill needs for BridgeWay residents.

• Complete all training required by program management and DFPS licensing minimum standards such as; Trauma

• Informed Care, Recognizing and Reporting Child Sexual Abuse, Psychotropic Medication, Normalcy Training, and Sex Trafficking.
• Perform other duties related to the job as assigned by Shelter Director.

Minimum Education and Training:

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
• Spanish speaking preferred

• Formal professional experience working with at-risk youth required; experience working with youth in a residential setting preferred.

• Knowledge or background in the topics of sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, poverty, and disability preferred.

• Be capable of sitting and standing for extended periods of time, as well as be able to intermittently push, pull, or life

• 25+lbs. of force.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.

• The Ability to problem-solve and defuse crisis under pressure.

• Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well as pre-employment drug screen and TB test.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to connect with youth while maintaining good boundaries and being a positive role model
• Good oral and written communication skills.

Performance Objectives:
Obtain and maintain current on all training requirements (hours, CPR/1st Aid, Crisis Intervention, TB test, driver’s license, car insurance, etc.).

Receive a positive evaluation from peers/coworkers and youth 85% of the time by demonstrating implementation of competency based principles. This will be assessed at resident discharge and quarterly by peers.

Compensation:
We need you to fill the role of BridgeWay Emergency Youth Shelter Overnight Resident Advisor. This is a Full-Time, non- exempt, in-person duties position at our BridgeWay Youth Shelter. We will pay you an hourly wage of $13.00 + $2.00 shift differential for overnight.

• Travel is required during the normal workday. The employee will be required to drive a 15 passenger van in the course of his/her daily duty while transporting youth.

• The employee will also be required to travel in his/her own vehicle to and from YES to YOUTH – MCYS offices, seminars, and meetings.
