The Financial Counselor is responsible for screening patients to determine if they qualify for financial assistance and/or Medicaid, setting up patient payment plans, collecting patient payments, and managing un-paid patient accounts to determine if they need to be sent to collections.
Essential Functions:
1.
Accurately gathers information from patients admitted to the hospital pertaining to that patient’s finances. This includes but is not limited to the behavioral health unit.
2.
Accurately updates patient information such as insurance information and/or mailing addresses etc.
3.
Determines and documents accounts if a patient qualifies for NRMC’s financial assistance program.
4.
Monitors un-paid accounts and marks them for bad debt.
5.
Reaches out to patients to offer a financial aid packet.
6.
Organizes and maintains accurate records of financial aide packets.
7.
Monitors patient accounts who have filed for bankruptcy and determines if a claim needs filed.
8.
Establishes reoccurring payments for patients.
9.
Identifies accounts of deceased individuals and determines if a probate can/should be filed.
10.
Maintains patient confidentiality

Requirements:
1.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Preferred Requirements:
1.
2+ years of experience
2.
Some knowledge of healthcare billing
3.
Previous experience with bankruptcy/probate
4.
Previous cashier experience
