SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Nurses who have graduated from a college level nursing program and have passed a national licensing exam.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patient Placement and Flow
Obtain necessary clinical information to facilitate appropriate bed assignment. Efficiently facilitate all patient admissions, transfers and discharges utilizing relevant infection control policies. Serve as the point person for patient placement at all times. Manage patient flow through the centralized bed system and capacity management dashboard.
- Clinical Policies and Procedures
- Be clinically knowledgeable around disease entities; around epidemiological issues and around circumstances that may change where a patient can be placed. Be knowledgeable about all units as to the type of patient that each unit can accept and the type of equipment or medications that can be administered on each unit, in accordance with clinical policies and procedures.
- Performance Improvement
Monitor capacity and the patient flow process and participate in system-level approaches for improvement. Collect, measure and analyze capacity/flow data and report performance over time. Improve and redesign processes based on the evaluation, and reassess continuously. Participate in the system-wide capacity/patient flow improvement initiatives.
- System-Level Collaboration
Ensure the exchange of appropriate patient care and clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred or discharged. Participate in the assessment of a patient’s needs, the organization’s capability to provide care or treatment and the appropriate level of care. Share timely information to facilitate effective patient flow throughout the hospital. Actively participate in the daily bed huddle. Serve as the point of contact for all physicians admitting patients. Communicate with the MPS and unit-based charge nurses to assess acuity and unit capabilities related to staffing to ensure a timely patient admission process.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- 3 years of RN experience
- Active Ohio RN License
Preferred:
- 2 – 5 years of work experience in a related job discipline
