Job Description

The Hospice Chaplain is responsible for providing spiritual counseling and emotional support to the active and bereaved patient and/or family, and staff members if needed.

Job Duties

Provides spiritual assessment, counseling, and support to patients and families.

Demonstrate and apply knowledge of diverse religious, cultural, and spiritual values, and customs related to illness, death, and mourning.

Participate in the preparation, evaluation, and execution of the interdisciplinary care plan, to ensure that the aims of continuity and comprehensiveness of care are accomplished. Work cooperatively as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

Participate in taking on-call responsibilities and necessary including weekend and evenings.

Provide documentation for the clinical records per hospice standards.

Perform memorial and funeral services for the patients/families as requested.

Qualifications/Requirements

Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology, or appropriate certification in pastoral ministry.

Hospice experience of one year or longer preferred.

Computer skills; prior experience with electronic medical records (EMR) is preferred, but not required.

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Ensures protection of confidential information that is stored, handled, or maintained by the Agency per HIPAA regulations.

Must have a current driver’s license, reliable transportation with the ability to travel to make patient visits.

Must have the ability to handle stress associated with ministering to patients and their families who experience pain, suffering, death, and grief.

Knowledge of the spiritual issues common during illness, death, anticipatory grief, and bereavement.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 – $24.00 per hour
