Medical Assistant – Comprehensive Pain Center – Allentown, PA

We are looking for a professional and responsible medical assistant to work in our office. Hours are Monday-Friday. Travel to satellite offices is required.

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the medical assistant is responsible to assist the Physician, PA, or NP in support of medical care of patients. Day to day activities will vary from registering patients, taking a medical history, performing a limited exam, drawing blood, and administering therapeutic measures.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, staff and management
  • Demonstrate high level of interpersonal and communication skills necessary to consistently receive and greet visitor, patients, and staff members in a professional manner.
  • Maintain an environment conducive to patient comfort and confidentiality
  • Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol.
  • Must be able to effectively cope with typical job stress
  • Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy/stressful situation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone, and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to work with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and sexual preference backgrounds
  • Willingness to learn quickly and adapt to a variety of situations
  • Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance
  • Must be willing to travel to satellite offices on a regular basis.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintain equipment for use at all times, in a clean and safe condition

2. Oversee the organization of the workplace, including cleaning and stocking supplies

3. Obtains chief complaint from patient as well as other subjective information such as past medical history, past surgical history, current medications, allergies, and family history

4. Obtains height, weight and vital signs (temp, BP, HR, RR, SpO2, Wt., and Ht)

5. Assists provider as needed during the patient exam

6. Administer injections and apply dressings as instructed

7. Perform venipuncture as needed

8. Perform basic laboratory tests (e.g. RapidStrep, RapidFlu, MonoSpot, finger-stick glucose, etc.)9. Provide patient information/instructions

9. Must be able to perform EKG’s, Hearing & Vision testing, Spirometry and Ankle brachial index. DOT experience helpful.

10. If needed, call in patient prescriptions to a pharmacy as directed

11. Maintain and update patient information in electronic medical record

12. Distribute medications as directed by provider

13. Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

1. Knowledge of HIPAA laws and patient rights

2. Knowledge of infection control principles and practice

3. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures

4. Knowledge of OSHA safety rules and procedures while on-site

5. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

6. Ability to write simple correspondence

7. Ability to effectively present in one-on-one situations to patients and provider

8. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

1. High school diploma or GED

2.. One year Medical Assistant experience preferred

3. Willingness to attend continuing medical education courses at the request of the employer

4. Child Abuse Background Checks are required.
