Job Summary

Odyssey House Louisiana, Inc. is seeking a full-time LPNs for the Medically Assisted Detox Unit. Available shifts: Monday-Friday 7am-8pm shift or 7pm-8am shift, including rotating weekends and holidays. This position provides high quality client-focused health care services that meet the assessed and individually planned needs of all clients on the Medically Assisted Detox Unit. The LPN will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and is responsible for maintaining standards of nursing care and competency, ethical treatment of patients, understanding of addiction and the medications used for detoxification purposes, managing symptoms of withdrawal with comprehensive triage, consistent documentation on care, review and implementation of treatment orders, and participation in the multi-disciplinary team via written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Daily observation, assessment, and documentation of clients experiencing S&S of withdrawals from drugs and/or alcohol.
  • Safely administer medications as ordered using the five rights and utilizing a MAR.
  • Narcotic pill count at the beginning and end of each shift and management of stock medicines.
  • Admit new clients into the Detox Program.
  • Manage pharmacy orders on patients by processing them in a timely manner by fax or verbal order, assuring their arrival and log them onto patient’s MAR.
  • Complete health information groups as requested by Program Manager
  • Ability to educate clients on the medication taper which has been prescribed.
  • Encourage clients’ participation by empowering them via support vs. confrontation.
  • Complete accurate census and count on all clients daily as instructed by direct supervisor.
  • Complete triage on patient at time of admit, transcribe it to relevant paperwork for MDT.
  • Maintain control of narcotics, keys and all other medications.
  • Participate in inventory control.
  • Review individual patient needs with psychiatrist and medical doctor as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Valid Louisiana LPN License
  • Healthcare CPR
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with substance abuse treatment knowledge of chemical dependency treatment, medical assessment/implementation of doctor’s orders
  • Strong Written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
