Schedule: PRN, As Needed Basis (Days)

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care to assigned patients for all patients in the Psychiatric Research Institute PRI is a 40 bed unit which cares for adult patients (30 beds) child patients (10 beds). PRI focuses on the psychiatric needs – situational and chronic depression, long standing mental illnesses of all types. Some of the patients on this unit also require significant medical attention for illnesses typically found in the elderly population. We utilize psychiatry, nursing, social work, and recreational, occupational, and nutritional therapies to help our patients to function at the highest and most independent level possible prior to their to discharge back home to independent living, assisted living, or to an inpatient nursing facility.

A multidisciplinary approach is used to treat our patients, and the team of specialists is comprised of psychiatry, nursing, social work, and recreational, occupational and physical therapies, as well as dietary counseling and education. We also involve all medical specialties necessary to provide optimum care for each of our patient’s individual medical problems, thereby recognizing each patient as an integrated bio-psycho-social and spiritual being, as we provide care for them in the most time and cost effective manner possible. Electro-Convulsive Therapy is available as a treatment modality for intractable depression and various other conditions, which have not responded to medication or other psychiatric therapies, for both our inpatients and outpatients (NA child unit).

Responsibilities:

The Registered Nurse will provide patients support, education, and assistance in the prevention and/or maintenance of their disease and/or health and wellness state and will work with the individual patient, their families, and providers of care to develop and implement individual health plans, and provide support to the patient in self-management. Coordinate care and/or follow-up for patients who receive care in outpatient clinics. Coordination of prescription refill requests and patient education coordination in collaboration with physician staff. The RN will develop a specialty in patient care related to the clinic’s populations and acts as a resource. The RN will work with the providers and clinical staff to implement innovative approaches and set priorities to meet patient/family needs. Commitment to patient outcomes results in high levels of performance despite workload changes.

PRN Nurses will report to an assigned Clinical Services Manager

PRN Applicant’s Work history will be screened to match the position in which they have applied for.

PRN Maximum allowable hours in a floating year is 1000.

Qualifications:


Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with Associates Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelors in Nursing, or Master’s in Nursing
  • Valid RN License
  • 1 year minimum of registered nursing experience in psych.
  • Excellent communication skills, Basic computer skills, Strong work ethics and accountability
  • ACLS or BLS certification
