Production Chemist I – Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. – Hercules, CA

Bio-Rad is looking for a Production Chemist I. Formulates both Chemical and Biological products and intermediates (subcomponents) of varying properties and characteristics in order to meet specifications.

  • Perform production duties including but not limited to fermentation, purification, reagents formulation, dispensing, packaging, and in line quality control test to support Special Manufacturing products.
  • Complete work order and material transaction accurately in a timely manner.
  • Possess scientific understanding of Special Manufacturing products and their applications. Produce and conduct quality analysis on products. Supports Special Manufacturing and serves as technical resource for other manufacturing departments.
  • Participate in scale-up, process optimization, technology transfer, process validation, troubleshooting processes. Perform and improve manufacturing processes using principles of Lean Manufacturing.
  • Participate in planning and execution of manufacturing/QC schedule to meet production demand. Coordinate team resources to ensure the most efficient use of time and material.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, management, facilities, planning and purchasing team.
  • Explore and identify creative solutions to improve current production and QC processes.
  • Assist manufacturing in production activities as needed. Participate in the training and development of junior level chemists and technicians.
  • Maintain clean work area/lab following 5S, dispose waste, lean manufacturing, and good manufacturing practices (GMP)/compliance.
  • Execution of other tasks/assignments/projects as given by Production Lead/Supervisor/Manager.
  • Train other employees.
  • Propose and/or complete corrective actions to improve product quality or process efficiency.
  • Attention to detail, good record keeping and documentation.
  • Full Time 40hrs per week with Flexible/non-standard schedule outside of normal working hours if required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a life science or related field.
  • 0-3 years working in a general manufacturing environment formulating products in the areas of biological sciences, life sciences, or an equivalent.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of basic laboratory techniques and equipment.
  • Able to follow procedures and have good documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative team-oriented setting.
  • Good organization, communication, multi-tasking and computer skills.
  • Basic math skills in a science environment.
  • Excellent time and project management skills and ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience with ERP system – SAP or similar a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
