Polygon Project Manager – Facebook – Burlingame, CA

Facebook shows maps to billions of our users all over the world. Our maps help people to discover and connect with friends, creators, businesses, and other organizations they care about. They’re vital for internal communication of spatial statistics and required for public data sharing with non-profit and crisis response partners through Facebook’s Data for Good program. As a global company, we operate in almost all world jurisdictions and the maps we create must be usable regardless of language, location, or geopolitical point of view. The Spatial Computing team helps Facebook answer questions that begin with “where?” We combine open data, teams of map editors, GIS technology, and emerging AI/ML techniques to produce a world-scale mapping dataset. We participate in open data projects like OpenStreetMap to build our own maps and contribute back to the communities that create data. We coordinate with product teams throughout Facebook to provide map services across the family of apps and provide assistance to teams who want to more effectively use maps in their work. We are looking for candidates with experience organizing geography and policy decisions to ensure Facebook’s maps work for all of our users. Our team includes engineers, data scientists, cartographers, and GIS analysts with varying levels of experience and backgrounds including recent graduates and industry experts. We are excited to expand our work to include relationships with policy counterparts and support the creation and delivery of high-quality geopolitical map data.
