Certified Medical Assistant – Alaska Women’s Cancer Care – Anchorage, AK

Alaska Women’s Cancer Care is looking for an experienced certified medical assistant to join, our team.

Applicants should be very organized, hard-working, team players. This is a fast-paced clinic with complex patients. Both surgical and medical patients are seen in this office. Good communication skills and flexibility are a must. This is a full time 5 day a week position with hours that are generally from 10am-6pm. Prior experience with GYN or Chemo patients is preferred but not required.

Specific Duties include

Prep charts for clinic: 1-2 weeks prior to appointments schedule and charts should be reviewed. Calls should be made to HIGH COMPLEXITY patients to determine pertinent interim events (CT scans, ER visits, visits with other MD’s) and obtain outside records. Images from outside CT scans done should be loaded into system and viewable prior to clinic visits. 1-3 days prior before clinic prep should be completed 1) all items in PLAN of last note are present. 2) check that needed records/scans etc are obtained.

Direct Patient Care:

  • Take vitals and room patients.
  • Ask the patients EVERY Time * Desired pharmacy for any Rx given today
  • Med list review
  • Ask about missing items from chart prep (ie labs. . did you get drawn?)
  • Review with the patient what you have on the chart: I.E. I have your CT from last week, your ED visit from last month and notes
  • if any interval scans, records, ED and verify these are on chart
  • Ask if they have changed doctors or have new providers
  • Go in rooms with providers for procedures or when requested
  • Help patients as needed, onto tables, getting undressed, finding lab, take to ED
  • Patient education such as with the use of dilators

Appointment Follow up

Reading of daily appt notes by provider and ensure that pts are: 1) on the waitlist as appropriate 2) have appts as ordered 3) orders are carried out appropriately 4) Notify appropriate RN if there are orders for them (i.e. chemo patients) 5) Send referrals

Clinic/Room Care and Cleaning

Clean and turn over rooms between visits

Clean clinic spaces

Stocking rooms

Keeping inventory

Running/maintaining autoclave

Clean the kitchen for the month when scheduled

Paperwork

Sorting paperwork ie faxes/records as they come in and reviewing with your MD

Writing letters for patients

Ensuring paperwork and forms are in stock and in correct places.

Handicap parking applications

HRD and other tumor testing for follow up patients

Other

Regularly Cover front desk for breaks and vacations

Clinic task list duties when otherwise not busy

Prepping genetic testing for shipping

Prior authorizations

Taking calls from and making calls to patients at the request of provider- I.E. to report labs/results to them

Filling out Prescriptions for providers when requested
