KBR is seeking a Technical and Mission Lead to provide mechanical and mission support to various technically challenging projects, primarily centered on space bioscience research aboard the International Space Station. The selected candidate will lead coordination and planning with partners including creation of the mission schedule, personnel support, and required materials. The candidate will generate and/or review product fabrication, assembly, test, and operational utilization documentation as well as provide fabrication and assembly oversight and coordination for mechanical components and assemblies.
Due to the likelihood of being required to work with animal waste, the selected candidate will need to pass a medical evaluation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Act as the technical authority for hardware. Create, review and approve supporting documentation; define engineering requirements; procurement; make engineering determinations and assessments for usable shelf life.
- Lead coordination and planning of the mission support including schedule creation, resource coordination, procurement requests, ship list development, and managing inventory.
- Coordinate with project partners on mission planning.
- Generate, review, and lead product fabrication, assembly, test and operational document creation, updates, and revision tracking.
- Provide production oversight and coordinate testing for mechanical components and assemblies that are the subject of project research hardware developmental expectations.
- Ensure quality assurance in products, services, and documentation that supports task order fulfillment. Ensure Ames Quality Assurance organizational representatives are engaged with project engineering and physical system developmental progress.
- Assist in leading engineering technician team by providing direction, removing obstacles, and escalating issues as needed.
- Assist engineering technician team in product development, assembly, and testing as required.
- Assist product verification/validation and system troubleshooting needs, as necessary.
- Responsibilities may involve direction of other engineering staff assigned to provide mechanical engineering support to common work efforts.
- Some travel is required; approximately 5-10%.
- Work will require standard office tasks such as printing, copying, faxing, etc.
Required Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s in Engineering or Aviation with a minimum five (5) years’ experience in the space flight or aircraft production as well as five (5) years’ experience in directing and leading teams.
Required Skills/Training:
- Extensive training and experience in the application of engineering practices and processes applicable to the development, operation, and maintenance of spaceflight hardware/systems.
- Good understanding of configuration management and quality systems development standards and processes applicable to engineering and development of aerospace systems.
- Capable of leading or working as an individual contributor in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; capable of accepting input and exchanging knowledge and ideas in a positive, productive manner.
- Basic computer skills. e.g., MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, or their equivalents.
Desired Education, Experience, Skills or Training:
- Experience coordinating across other departments
- Experience in training fellow co-workers
- Experience with NASA/ISS/Ames requirements and regulations
- Familiarity with Rodent Research Project
