GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position provides educational opportunities and track completed education for nursing staff at the Wyoming Life Resource Center, including MANDT, CPR, employee health and safety, nursing in-services, electronic health records, staff training, and orientation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Create, implement, and maintain a skills competency program for the Nursing Department.
  • Collaborate with medical to develop and maintain a training and competency program to ensure nursing is proficient with nursing skills.
  • Provide educational opportunities for medication aides and other support staff as needed.
  • Provide PRN training on the units on emergent medical issues, change in policy, procedure, and practice, and any other changes that may affect nursing staff’s workflow.
  • Collaborate with the IDT to help develop and implement a treatment plan/care plan.
  • Participate in reviewing client care plans and the nurse manager to ensure care plans are patient-centered and complete per nursing guidelines.
  • Perform routine chart audits and documentation reviews along with the DON and Nurse manager to ensure the quality of care.
  • Observe work concerns for nursing staff and provide supervision/ instruction as needed for quality care.
  • Participate in interviews for nursing applicants.
  • Assist with scheduling, handling call-ins, calling nursing to fill open shifts, and ensure new nurses are oriented to their pod or area in a timely manner.
  • Work with our Professional Development Center to ensure new hire orientation is completed in a timely manner, and mentor new nurses.
  • Assist with coverage of shifts as needed and communicate with other shifts to ensure our clients’ continuity of care.
  • Document per nursing policy.
  • Expected to provide intense medical care such as trach, suctioning, wound care, respiratory treatments, etc., as needed.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to applicants with experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health issues.

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of Wyoming Nurse Practice Act and Standards of Nursing Practice.
  • Skilled in communication, organization, time management, and team building.
  • Proficient in computer and word processing skills.
  • Supervisory and performance evaluation skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching style and techniques to different learning styles.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:

Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Nursing)


Experience:

1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Nurse


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming


OR


Education & Experience Substitution:

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Nurse


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Must be able to safely move (twisting, bending, lifting, kneeling, pushing, pulling), position, and lift people with multiple and severe disabilities.
  • Ability to monitor sounds, noises, location of clients, etc., to assure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns.
  • Ability to work alone and with multiple clients.
  • Ability to work in high-stress situations.
  • Work evenings, nights, and /or weekends when the situation requires it.

  • FLSA: Non-exempt
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be conducted on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
