Position Overview:

This is a field-testing position involving conducting air emissions testing for industrial clients. Must be willing to work outdoors or in industrial environments using a teamwork approach with other members of the testing teams. A Project Scientist (PS) will support the basic aspects of testing project including equipment preparation, deployment, staging/breakdown and sampling tasks assigned to them. Those seasoned PS should be able to assemble and operate basic and intermediate testing equipment without supervision.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Safety and DOT Compliance: Successfully adheres to Health and Safety Program Manual, follows all DOT requirements as trained to do so, Proper use of Electronic Logging Device (ELD)
  • Submit reports, technical data, timesheets and project expense reports
  • Apply sound Mechanical and Electrical skills and knowledge of “how things work”

Lab and Warehouse

  • Properly calibrate pitots and control modules following all procedures
  • Properly prepare glassware following methods and procedures
  • Ensure sampling equipment and mobile laboratories are clean prior to arrival at job sites
  • General equipment maintenance and Mobile Lab Cleaning

Field Responsibilities

  • Properly transport, set up and safely use pulley rope
  • Download and complete method templates with minimal supervision
  • Perform field QA and obtain weights properly on a field balance
  • Properly assemble basic sampling trains at stack level
  • Troubleshoot leak and thermocouple issues within stack sampling systems
  • Properly obtain static pressure, pitot traverse and cyclonic flow measurements
  • Properly maintain sampling trains during testing
  • Demonstrate ability to properly traverse a source per Method 1 specifications

Minimum Requirements:

Education – Must have High School Diploma. AS or BS degree preferred (Science and Engineering related fields ideal)

Experience – No experience needed, HOWEVER applicants meeting a minimum of 6 months in field services may be considered for higher levels. Use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Products and tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Good verbal communication skills (Internally and with Clients and Regulators) with professional appearance and behavior. Maintain positive attitude with ability to work well in groups and desire to achieve goals and grow into higher positions of leadership. Ability to work safely in an office and field environment, operate an Aerial Lift from the platform or deck and willingness to work at elevated heights on stack platforms up to 300 feet.

Certifications – Valid driver’s license

  • Working knowledge of 40CFR60 App. A Methods 1-4, completion of internal higher level training and evaluation (if hired at a higher level)

Physical Requirements – Flexibility to work outdoors and in industrial environments 40+ hour weeks as well as some nights and weekends. Consistent standing or walking, bending, crouching or stooping, climbing ladders and/or stairs, frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Distinguish between shades of color.
