Policy Analyst, Clinical Innovation – AHIP – Washington, DC

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Policy Analyst works with senior leadership with responsibility spanning a broad array of health care policy and health insurance issues and topics. Specific responsibilities include supporting work in the areas of prevention and population health, behavioral health, maternal and infant health, chronic care management including complex care and aging-related issues, vaccines and immunizations, social determinants of health and health equity, emerging technologies, medical coverage policies, etc. The specific topic areas may change over time as the association’s priorities evolve with the U.S. health care market. This position supports the strategic, policy and advocacy goals of the organization by producing critical information that responds to the needs of our members, promotes the value proposition of health plans, inform stakeholders about the role and decision processes of health plans, and works collaboratively to help colleagues and members succeed in providing high-quality health care services to consumers.

Essential Functions

1. Prepare issue papers, memoranda, analyses, briefing documents, program proposals, position papers, and other high-value materials and resources on issues relevant to topics addressed by the Clinical Innovation department, including in the areas listed above and other emerging topics for health plans.

2. Assist with monitoring and tracking national-level initiatives (both governmental and private) and identifying opportunities, developing proposals, implementing and managing programs for AHIP and industry-wide involvement.

3. Become a subject matter expert familiar with the health insurance industry positions on a broad range of topics; conduct background research on health plan programs, gather information, and analyze and synthesize such information; work collaboratively on demonstrating the value health plans in contributing to an environment of high-quality health and health care.

4. Contribute throughthe federal rule-making process to prepare comment letters, testimony, etc. on topics as assigned.

5. Attend meetings and interface with staff at health plans, federal agencies, associations, consumer groups, and other relevant groups to actively engage in providing industry perspective.

Competencies

  • Excellent analytical and oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment with regard to policies and priority deadlines.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. Continuous sitting for prolonged periods more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day. Keyboard use of greater or equal to 50% of the workday.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., however, may require long hours and weekend work.

1. This position can work remotely less than 25% of the time within a week

2. This position requires face-to-face interaction at our DC office or other locations 75% of the time within a week

Travel

Ability to travel approximately 5% of the time.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Policy, Public Health or related field, required.
  • Three to five years of work experience in health care research, policy, consulting, or related field.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree (Preferred)
