Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an Instructional Systems Designer in support of weapon system-based training. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) Training Systems Team (TST). The selected candidate will serve as the Instructional System Design (ISD) Lead for the GBSD Training Systems Team, in support of the TST Training Services Lead. This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Roles and responsibilities:
Weapon system-based instructional materials design and development of:

  • Instructional materials and products for technology-based courses – including online, mobile, immersive and performance support
  • Demonstrate and use effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills
  • Instruction materials – self-paced guides, case studies, job aids, evaluations; scenario-based storyboards; mobile learning concepts (smart phones, tablets)
  • Training materials – instructor guides, student manuals, workbooks, related materials; curricula to support program implementation across target audiences
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify specific training needs and develop solutions
  • Create and analyze assessments to evaluate learning effectiveness and instructional improvement opportunities – e.g. pre-tests, post-tests, and quizzes
  • Use ISD current Learning Theory to solve complex learning and performance problems

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 5 years experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule or 4 additional years in lieu of degree
  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Top Secret Clearance
  • Expert knowledge of Learning Theory, Design Thinking, Prototyping Learning/Training Solutions
  • Knowledge on how to integrate the best of ISD, current Learning Theory with Applied Research to solve Complex Learning and Performance Problems including User Human/Machine Interface application, User Experience and (UX) Design.
  • Conducted Training needs Analysis, Front End Analysis, Difficulty and Frequency Analysis on Task Based Learning
  • Developed training that is delivered through digital media, including Web, Video and Mobile Devices
  • Understanding of LMS functionality (course publishing, enrollments) and Learning Content Management Systems (Training Development Media applications)
  • Applying critical skills thinking when solving complex problems
  • Expert use and creative application of the ADDIE model

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in technical writing, background in adult learning theory, experience in writing curriculum that matches objectives
  • Experience in conducting
  • Training needs analysis (and other forms of analysis) that informs objectives and training design with a US Government customer.
  • Design and development of curriculum for advanced technologies, E-Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Extended Reality/Live Virtual Constructive training.
  • Have applied learning concepts with competency models to create detailed objectives for training of military equipment/tasks.
  • Conducted training assessments (Formative and Summative) and suggested optimized training solutions for maximizing performance.
  • Demonstrated experience in changing behavior through education beyond delivery of content to achieve innovation in delivery of training.
  • Familiarity or awareness of Agile/agile development and user/learner experience, including in multiple ID frameworks like ADDIE, Merrill’s Principles of Instruction, Gagne, etc.
  • Preference for people who worked on a program from beginning to end – from analysis of tasks to evaluation of a program. Also size and value of program and/or the number of programs they participated in is relevant to the ISD Lead role
  • Experience in a similar or related program to GBSD and/or multimedia experience, supporting the successful execution of Department of Defense programs.
  • Experience and familiarity with Air Force Ratings, Air Force Enlisted Codes, Air force instructions related to ISD and training design.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Top Secret Clearance
