General Summary:

This position is responsible for performing routine and extensive range of work in the repair and general maintenance of facilities and equipment. This opportunity is available to individuals with a current Maintenance Mechanic, Electrician, or Millwright Journeyman card or those who are current apprentices in those areas and are working towards earning a Journeyman card.


Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on facilities and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment as production requirements demand.
  • Create new or replacement parts for various machines.
  • Utilize maintenance software daily for prioritizing work and recording results.
  • Participate in training as required by new processes and equipment to safely perform maintenance and operate.
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance and housekeeping (5S) of own work area and tools.
  • Operate material handling equipment as needed based on safety guidelines.


Job Specifications:

  • High School diploma/HSED/GED required.
  • State indentured Maintenance Mechanic, Electrician, or Millwright Journeyman card preferred.
  • Partial completion of a Maintenance Mechanic, Electrician, or Millwright apprenticeship program is required if do not have a state indentured Journeyman card.
  • 2-5 years of maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • High level of analytical ability with a high focus on safety and quality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and written.
  • Basic math and computer skills required.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints/drawings and equipment owner manuals.
  • Exceptional problem solving and time management skills.
  • Understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical schematics and controls.


Qualifications for Maintenance Mechanic
Journeyman Classification

To be accepted as a maintenance mechanic journeyman, or if you already have a State Indentured Journeyman card, the applicant must:

1. Have achieved minimum required test scores on the pre-apprenticeship test. These tests are administered monthly at NTC. Contact HR for scheduling dates and times.

2. Be selected as the most qualified candidate based upon work experience, past education and other relevant factors, following an interview conducted by trades employees and management in the Skilled Trades Committee.

3. Be able and willing to successfully complete continuing education classes both during regular work hours and during other hours as required.

4. Lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.

5. Be able to learn necessary skills and retain this knowledge in order to complete work assignments in a timely manner and perform them within accepted quality levels.

6. Be able to perform in a team environment and also be self-directed as situations dictate.

7. Have a good understanding of GFC safety standards and follow procedures.

8. Have basic computer skills and be able to author work history detail into our maintenance software.
