“I Rise” (Family Self-Sufficiency) Coordinator – New Directions Housing Corporation – Louisville, KY

New Directions Housing Corporation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, has been serving Louisville and Southern Indiana for nearly 50 years. We are a community development corporation that focused on providing affordable housing and tailored social services to families of low income, seniors and the disabled. In short, we are Caring Neighbors Building Community.

New Directions is currently seeking a dedicated “I Rise” Coordinator to support and assist participants with attainment of their goals the “I Rise” Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program, while supporting the mission and work of New Directions Housing Corporation.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm (May allow for some flexibility)

FLSA Status: Salary/Exempt

Pay Range: $32,000.00 – $38,000.00 annualized salary

Position Summary: Under general supervision, the “I Rise” Coordinator collaborates with the I Rise team to coach residents through the program. The “I Rise” Coordinator also ensures compliance and coordinates program reporting to public and private supporting entities.

Essential Responsibilities:

Service Coordination and Oversight:

  • Recruiting participants from New Directions residents
  • Providing and coordinating services for financial education/ literacy/ empowerment/ academic education/workforce training/coaching programs that will help program participants acquire the knowledge and skills to make informed and effective decisions that ultimately help them reach their goals and achieve self-sufficiency and financial stability.
  • Completing participant assessments per program requirements.

  • Executing the Contract of Participation and the Individual Training and Services Plan with participants
  • Assisting program participants set and meet goals.
  • Supporting participants’ job search, placement, retention, and advancement, as well as the achievement of other goals.
  • Assessing and reporting participant progress.
  • Monitoring and reviewing escrow accounts.
  • Determining when a participant has graduated and approving escrow disbursements.
  • Reporting on program outcome.
  • Assisting the I Rise Coach in building and maintaining partnerships with service providers.
  • Making referrals to service providers.

Collaboration

  • With program staff, develops and maintain a comprehensive network of education, job training, drug prevention and education, economic development, and supportive services for individuals and families.
  • With program staff, develops and implements curriculum to increase community engagement, eviction prevention, workforce development, and other programming designed to support resident & neighborhood families.
  • Assists in researching grants and collaborates in grant writing process to obtain needed funding to support Resident Services programs.
  • Attends appropriate community meetings to increase access to resources and to support agency goals.
  • Works with other New Direction staff to coordinate and improve services for residents.
  • Works with community leaders, New Direction property management department, and residents to identify resident needs, leverage support, implement solutions, and support agency goals.
  • Assists in assessing resident needs.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field; a combination of education, training and experience that results in demonstrated competency to perform the work may be substituted.
  • Minimum of one to two years working in Community Development, Community Organizing, Human Services, or Resource Coordination.
  • Ability to maintain statistical data regarding program outcomes using various computer-generated programs.
  • Experience working with low-income population.
  • Ability to organize and manage priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication: strong interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license, have reliable transportation and automobile insurance that complies with state law.
  • Successfully pass any pre-employment background screening.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of any information he or she encounters.
  • Team player with commitment to the agency’s values.
  • Follows agency protocol and chain of command established by his or her supervisor.

Specialized Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • General human development and how social policies and procedures can affect individual persons.
  • Knowledge of issues impacting low-income and single parent families.
  • Knowledge of Best Practices for Service Coordination.
  • Familiarity with HUD’s Family Self Sufficiency Program

  • Physical Demands & Effort: While performing duties of job, the employee will work with residents and community members, requiring high degrees of flexibility, listening, creativity and problem solving. The position requires the ability to respond to a family’s needs and program needs on short notice. Employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time, climb stairs, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. Position may require moderate amount of lifting, carrying items, bending and stretching. Position requires entering and exiting a vehicle numerous times during a workday along with various amounts of motor vehicle operation. Employee will be required to operate a motor vehicle for the purpose of traveling between various sites at various times during the work day. Position can require the employee to work extended weekend hours to deliver programming to residents, participants, and community members to accommodate their needs of availability.
  • Work Environment: The work is performed at numerous locations that can include, but not limited to employees’ office, agreed upon public location, job site, New Directions Learning Center, and/or participants current place of residence. The employee may experience instances in which circumstances require the employee to have the ability to diffuse a situation.
  • Machines, Tools & Equipment: Ability to use and understand the operation of basic office equipment that includes, but not limited to computers and various applications, printer, photocopy machine, telephone, cell phone, calculator and shredder.
