Medical Technician – Community Health Center of Central Wyoming – Casper, WY

Job Summary

Responsible for collection of patient specimens using proper, efficient, and safe techniques for examination and testing in a high-complexity medical laboratory. Performs routine clinical tests in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology and coagulation to provide data for the use in diagnosis and treatment of patients. Keeps accurate records, performs quality control, instrument calibration and proficiency testing.

Essential Functions

  • Utilizes standard procedures for patient identification and sample labeling, and records appropriate collection information on proper laboratory forms.
  • Exhibits knowledge of aseptic techniques, correct handling of potentially infectious specimens, and ability to identify adverse reactions.
  • Collects blood and other samples for laboratory testing, and prepares specimens for testing.
  • Performs accurate analysis on patient specimens as demonstrated by annual proficiency testing.
  • Provides accurate and timely results to providers and/or nursing personnel
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of test results, quality control, and quality assurance processes.
  • Cultures, isolates, and accurately identifies pathogenic micro-organisms and parasites as demonstrated by annual proficiency testing.
  • 8 Assists in keeping inventory; ensures supplies are not outdated.
  • Reviews and interprets procedure manuals, medical charts, and CLIA regulations.
  • May provide assistance in managing workflow in supervisor’s absence, as directed.
  • May provide training to phlebotomy students in the principles, procedures and techniques of phlebotomy.
  • Performs other functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, or a related field (or an associate’s degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician) plus one year related laboratory experience or equivalent. MT/MLT Registration by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent approved organization.
