Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant – Sinus & Nasal Institute of Florida, P.A. – Saint Petersburg, FL

APRN Responsibilities

Tertiary care Rhinologists/skull base surgeons at the Sinus & Nasal Institute of Florida , p.a., are seeking to collaborate with an APRN who is devoted to an extraordinary patient care and who is interested in advancing her/his skill set while establishing a long term practice relationship. Once trained in multiple procedures and facets of Otolaryngology he/she will assist with physician collaborators in their clinic activities 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and will see rhinology / ENT patients in clinic independently 2 days per week Tuesday and Thursday. The APRN will assist with physician responsibilities covering ER call and inpatient care at one community hospital 12 weeks per year including weekend rounding approximately 6 weeks/year. Our APRN is required to round each morning at the hospital (St. Anthony’s Hospital and rarely at All Children’s Hospital) prior to beginning their clinic duties. The subspecialty training period is anticipated to last 6-12 months (depending upon prior experience).

Additional long term goals for the SNI APRN are to:

  • Assist with maintain allergy/immunotherapy program
  • Establish and implement vaccination program – Flu, Pneumococcal, Shingles, based upon cdc recommendations
  • Establish and Maintain Tumor/ Cancer registry for Practice and enter information into patient charts
  • Participate in SNI — -QAI PROGRAM best practices in Rhinology; Patient evaluation of care data summary and input
  • Learn to participate in clinical research

Initial salary to be commensurate with experience in otolaryngology, planned growth of guaranteed annual income to the 75%ile of the area for similar APRNs. Malpractice insurance coverage to be covered by SNI while active. PTO/Vacation/holiday time is at least 20 business days /year.

  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for clinical privileges, the applicant must provide evidence of having satisfied the following minimum criteria:
  • Basic Education: MS in Nursing from a National League of Nursing (NLN) approved APRN Program.
  • Licensure: Current Florida RN licensure APRN certification. Eligible to obtain Prescriptive Authority. Prescriptive Authority must be registered with and approved by the State Board of Nursing, along with collaborating physician associated with this delineation.
  • Certification: National Certification as recognized by Florida State Board of Nursing
  • References: Two letters of reference – at least two must be from a peer, one of which should be your previous supervisor. The individuals must be able to attest to the quality of patient care of the provider requesting privileges. If the practitioner is less than 2 years in practice, one of the letters must be from the program director.
  • Life Safety ACLS/BLS certification required

As part of core privileges at hospital must be able to :

· May carry out the clinical privileges currently granted to professional registered nurses at this entity.

· Screen patients and patient calls to determine need for medical attention.

· Review patient records to determine health status.

· Take a patient history and perform a physical examination.

· Record pertinent patient data.

· Formulate an accurate assessment, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment plan for initial and/or follow-up visits.

· Prepare patient summaries.

· Order laboratory and diagnostic studies.

· Obtain specimens for and order commonly performed blood, urine and stool analyses, and cultures.

· Evaluate and document patient’s response to therapeutic interventions; modify the plan of care to optimize outcomes.

· Identify normal and abnormal findings on history, physical examination, and commonly performed laboratory studies.

· Evaluate and document Sinus Imaging Interpretation

· Initiate referrals (consultations) to physician and/or health care providers (Social Work, Pulmonary Rehab, Nutrition Services, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy etc.) to provide patients with holistic care.

· Provide ongoing education and counseling to patients and families regarding the disease process and management strategies in treating the disease process.

· Provide correspondence or telephone communication to referring physicians, other health care providers, and referring facilities regarding patient status or treatment plan.

· Keeps collaborating physician informed of patient progress.

· Performs Consultations

· Prescribe, order and execute diagnostic therapeutic regimes

· Resuscitation

· Suture and staple removal

Non-Core privileges in which APRN will become certified in will include:

· Perform endoscopic physical examination (ears, nose, throat)

· Interpret culture / Microgen result

· Perform multi-prick and intradermal testing to determine patient allergy sensitivity

· Determine patient eligibility for immunotherapy for desensitization to individual allergens.

· Mixing of desensitization immunotherapy vials based on individual patient allergy sensitivity profiles

· Initiation and continued maintenance of desensitization immunotherapy with ongoing evaluation of patient response in order to modify therapy as needed to optimize outcomes

· Recognize and treat airway anaphylaxis code

· Needle aspiration and drainage of Peritonsillar Abscess

· Incision and drainage of superficial abscess of the neck & face

· Packing replacement of deep neck abscess

· Cerumen and/or foreign body external ear canal removal

· Simple wound management with suturing and staples

· Anesthesia techniques with local injection

· Sinus Culture / Debridement / polypectomy / biopsy

· Endoscopic control epistaxis – nasal packing and /or cautery

· Replace Established Tracheotomy tube

· Decannulate Tracheotomy tubes

· Direct laryngoscopy and intubation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
