SCHOOL NURSE OPENING
(K-12)


PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The major focus of school nursing services is the promotion of health, prevention of illness and the early detection and correction of health problems.


DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:
1. Building Principal 2. Director of Student Services


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide immediate intervention for students with health problems.
  • Work with students and families to enable the student to achieve in school.
  • Operate from clearly defined goals and objectives
  • Parents:
  • Serve as a contact person in the school for the parent.
  • Act as a health liaison person between home, school, and community.
  • Teachers
  • Assist teachers in working with students who have individual health problems.
  • Initiate contacts and provide immediate follow-up with staff.
  • Community Agencies:
  • Make referrals to agencies in the community in order to provide health needs for

students.

  • Screening:

Screen and evaluate in the areas of vision, hearing, dental, and

developmental growth patterns.

  • Health Records:

Maintain, evaluate and interpret cumulative health data for each student. Records

include yearly revision of forms, ensuring compliance with Missouri State

Immunization Law, Sec. 167.181.

  • Safety:
  • Participate with the staff to provide safe surroundings for students.
  • Report any safety hazards to the administrator.
  • Emergency Treatment:
  • In service staff and students on the AED
  • Administer first-aid and direct students and families to appropriate health services.
  • Health Curriculum:
  • Conduct demonstrations and discussions on subjects concerning health in the

classroom at the request of the teacher.

  • Assume responsibility for the coordination of human growth and

development.

  • Medication:

Supervise the dispensing of medication to students according to District policy.

  • Clinic Management:
  • Responsible for creating a professional, well-organized, clean and attractive

clinic.

  • Effectively monitor clinic flow.
  • Child Abuse:

Report incidents of child abuse and neglect to the Missouri Child Abuse Hotline as

well as the Principal and the Director of Student Services.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Director of Student

Services and Nurse Coordinator.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current RN or LPN license in the State of Missouri;
  • Must know current ideas and trends in the health area;
  • Must maintain updated CPR/AED certification and training in the areas of communicable diseases;
  • Must have computer skills
  • Know current ideas and trends in the health area.
