Minimum Qualifications/Experience: Medical Assistant training or relevant experience. Outstanding organizational skills, medical terminology knowledge.
Experience with EMR

JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant assists the physician in providing excellent patient care within the office environment. Obtains and records accurate patient medical history information. Measures and records vital signs. Obtains and records medication & allergy details on each patient. Attempts to assist the physician in keeping patient wait times to a minimum, by being organized and prepared. Assists in the preparation of patient charts and obtaining relevant test results on patients. Offers friendly, courteous and confidential assistance to all patients and their families. Must be able to multi task in a busy work environment and have ability to identify & prioritize tasks. Will be required to travel between locations as necessary.

Job Description

1. Patients are greeted courteously. exam rooms.
2. The MA introduces herself/himself to the patient and correctly identifies patient.

3. Ensures exam rooms are clean and stocked.
4. Assists the physician to stay on schedule, recognizes the need to minimize patient wait time.

Obtains patient medical history.

1. Takes accurate patient history, uses restatement & clarification technique when necessary.
2. Recognizes patient’s level of understanding, uses language & verbal skills that enable patient understanding.
3. Displays sensitivity to patients. Acknowledges patient’s anxiety or embarrassment and responds appropriately. Demonstrates empathy in communicating with patients and family members.
4. Demonstrates respect for diversity, including gender, religion, age & economic status of patients.
5. Demonstrates good listening skills.
6. Reports relevant information to others accurately, uses correct medical terminology.
7. Verifies and documents patient information accurately within the ECW patient chart.

Obtains patient medication
1. Displays accurate recording of patient medication allergy information. and allergy information at each office visit.

Measures Vital Signs
1. Accurately measures and records height & weight
2. Measures B/P using sphygmomanometer & stethoscope. Selects right size B/P cuff.
3. Locates radial pulse & measures.
4. Assesses if patient requires temperature measured.
5. Can distinguish between normal & abnormal results.
6. Documents vital signs accurately within patient chart.

Supports the practice in its

1. Portrays a professional image at all times, both in efforts to provide quality service person and via the telephone. Communication with to its patients patients, physicians and other healthcare providers, direct supervisor and co-workers is tactful and professional at all times, as observed by supervisory personnel and by feedback from others.
2. Patient confidentiality is maintained at all times by complying with HIPAA guidelines with regard to privacy & release of patient records. This is monitored by observation and by feedback from others.
3. Assist with phones and messages as necessary
4. Assists colleagues with tasks as necessary.
5. Assists Clinical Supervisor with tasks or special projects as requested.
6. Attends staff meetings as requested.

Patient Chart Preparation
1. Displays ability to access, interpret and document relevant patient history.
2. Displays proficiency in using office hardware & software. Includes the use of ECW, Misys & Chart Capture systems
3. Appropriately & accurately sorts and places procedure reports in patient charts.
4. Identifies, provides and records relevant hospital
(Soarian), patient history documentation.
5. Accesses patient laboratory results, using online or telephone procedures, as required.
Patient examination
1. When appropriate, assists doctor during a physical exam. Helps to position patient and utilizes drapes to maintain patient comfort.

Required responsibilities unique
1. Prepares equipment to perform Capsule endoscopy to the practice or assist with Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
2. Follows guidelines and procedure to perform Capsule endoscopy.
3. Provides information and reports to physician following the study.

Required responsibilities unique
1. Appropriately performs Hemoccult tests when to the practice. required. Verifies accuracy of results using control sample.
2. Checks expiration dates of supplies utilized.
3. Ensures test results are made available for ordering physician.
4. Documents results in appropriate log books.
