The Harborview Admitting Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Patient Services Specialist 1-Trainee or PSS 2 (Full Time, Variable Shifts). The Patient Services Specialist (PSS) supports front desk operations for the HMC Admitting Department in an integrated staffing model in which PSS’s provide reception and scheduling services. In addition, the PSS serves as the primary resource for coordinating the daily patient flow and providing patient support services, and is required to be able to function effectively and independently. Under general supervision, the Patient Services Specialist performs specialized clerical and technical duties to facilitate the delivery of patient care.

PSS responsibilities include:

Provide support services such as obtaining and verifying demographic and financial information through pre-registration process; complete patient registration by obtaining consent for medical care and financial agreement; and process patient paperwork.

Triage patient telephone calls to clinical staff; provide information about services, and interact with patients, families, and nursing and medical staff to ensure patients are identified correctly and registered and admitted accurately as they enter the medical center.

Process charge documents

Collect time-of-service payments

Perform other necessary activities to maintain clinic operations

May provide guidance to staff outside assigned service area. May float among other areas, including admitting, registration, and patient care.
